DAG ammo, 100 yards, open sights
Used the DAG 1979 308 I got from Century. I shot using open sights at 100 yards. I know it might not be great, but for me, it is SUPER! I would have to say this ammo worked just fine. I think I'll have to get more. azski

That is good! I would't be able to see that target at 100yds with irons.

I love these Shoot-N-C targets. I mainly let my kids shoot at them with their 22's at 25 to 50 yards, but today I wanted to give it a try. I went to the range and found a clean white target holder. I put this black target on it and at 100 yards it still stands out. You can not see the change in colors like the target is made for (or even if you hit the darn thing), but I wanted to use it anyway.
When I walked up to the target and saw the '10', I took it down and brought it home. It took about 20ish shots to sight in the rifle, but after that, it seemed every shot hit close to where I wanted it to. I believe the ammo is better than I am. I KNOW the rifle is! azski PS: Gunplumber, you sure build a nice FAL!!! Fuatos- I'm not sure what boxer primed means. I'm new to some shooting terminology. Boxer primed means it's reloadable. Boxer primed ammo has one hole for the primer inside the casing while Berdan primed ammo has 2 smaller holes (look into an empty shell).

Hope you've adjusted your zero: MPOI is about 3" left (not sure of scale of rings). 7 or 8 clicks?

I went to a Range shoot today here in Arizona. I used this ammo and at 200 yards iron sights I was able to get a score of 81 out of 100 in the sitting rapid fire course. My total was 323 out of 500. Like I said before, not great and for some (most??) down right bad, but for a guy like me who never shot before a few months ago and with this being my first true sanctioned match, I was very happy.
I did adjust the sights to the right. Thanks for the advise. I checked, it is Berdan primed (2 primer holes at the bottm of a spent shell). azski

Thanks for leting me know about the berdan primers. I would be interested in the Herts. just for the reloading possiblities. Still looks like good ammo. to have put away.

the DAG stuff is available at www.ammunitionplus.com at a decent price.
the Hirtenberger is available at www.tenneseeguns.com at a good price also. I personally prefer the Hirtenberger- my DSA SA-58 standard took right to it- get this... Austrian/Steyr military barrel, iron sights, no bipod, hand support on bench only...hit a 14" metal gong @ 300 yds 10 times out of 10, all day long- and the rounds had more recoil than anything I've shot so far (Talon, PMC, Chilean, etc.) Hirtenberger, man- gotta love it.... |
