Over 40 eyes/ shooting glasses/prescription Zeiss.
When I turned 40, my eyes got far sighted. Why not fix our eyes with prescription glasses?? Yea, we get by with scopes, but are not as effective as we could be, heck, even olympic .22 marksmen use special diopters on highteck glasses to improve to maximum accurracy.
I was surprised to see that Zeiss, whom has made shooting glasses since 1939 make single and bifocals for under 200.00, a real deal this day and age IMHO. So, how many of you have tried or thought about getting shooting glasses?? As soon as I can I will be getting some. It is way past time to be the scary excellent shot I was in my youth, with glasses, calm nerves and a rest, us old guys can raise eyebrows of the youngsters.

I need to get some, my eyes are going downhill.
I think the thing is to find some that will work and satisfy the safety factor. I haven't decided what to do about it yet. Maybe the thread will turn up some new ideas. |

Throw in a little astigmatism, I'm considering glasses.
You're calling 40 old. You had better brace yourself.

Here are my 2 solutions:
Get a pair of glasses with the dominant eye (in my case right) setup for seeing the front sight clearly and the other eye setup for the target (infinity). Takes a bit to get used to and requires you to shoot with both eyes open but works really well. Get an Eotech or other optic and you avoid the whole issue. If you wear glasses for long distance, wear them with the optic sight. If you don't, then all will be clear. This problem is a real pain and there is no real great solution. The only other solution I have seen that looked like it might work was to have a special pair of glasses made with a bifocal in the upper corner of the dominant eye. Allows you to see the front sight but still requires both eyes open to shoot.

+1 for Randolf Rangers. I have been using them for about six years. Just pop in a different precription (for pistol or rifle) and you are good to go.
