FN powders

Has anyone had any problems with different
powders not cycling in the FN?
I had several 748 reloads on hand and they do not cycle reliably, I am gjoing to try some 4064 (46g) behind a 150 g sp and 125 sp
tommorrow, any imput will be welcome.

The classic gas gun powder for 7.62x51 is IMR-4895. Most M-14/M-1A shooters/reloaders use that more than any other powder. U.S. milspec GI ammo uses non-cannister grades of it.

I put five reloads with 748 thru my DSA and had no problems. All cycled fine. Used 46 grains of 748 behind a 150 grain Nosler Ballistic Tip, commercial cases, and CCI No. 34 primers. Crimped the loads with a Lee Factory Crimp die. The Noslers are the reason I shot only five (I realize that's not much of a litmus test). Saving the rest for hunting, but wanted to see if they shot to same point of impact as 150 grain factory loads. They did. I also plan to use 748 for some 125 grain soft points, though I probably won't shoot them until a trip in early March.

Are the reloads that gave you problems light loads? What kind of primers? I've read that ball powder begs for magnum primers.

Unfortunately, no experience with other rifle powders.

Thanks men,
I did another test this afternoon and no difference, I'm beginning to suspect a timing problem on this CAI gun.
Or perhaps the gas system is letting to much out. It seemed that the 748 came closer to
cycling.
I posted under gunsmithing and eagerly am
awaiting responses. THis gun has not cycled
properly from the get go. needless to say I'd not advise anyone to purchase a century
gun.

I had very same problem with CAI FAL. It about drove me nuts. It would not shoot any Mil-Spec ammo either. Only loads it would shoot were with slower burning powders and gas regulator fully closed. It consistently short stroked the action. I could get it to work with H-380 ok. Finally I scraped that mother. When I tore it down, I found that the regulator block was slightly off center on the port on the barrel. Thanks CAI. You might want to check it out. Also, toss the two piece gas rod that comes in the CAI and get the DSA rod.

The two piece rod is gone, it was bent the first day (first 5 rounds) Is what you have stated about the regulator block being of center considered the gas timeing?
Is it readily viewable once the sight is removed?
