flash hider/bayonet question

so i've decided i really want a bowie style bayonet for my metric bush rifle. i know that to use this kind of bayonet you have to have an inch pattern long flash hider. sadly i have an imbel short muzzle brake. i know the threads are right and left handed and you can't screw an inch flash hider on a metric barrel. so do i have to re-thread the flash hider or is there an easier way to get the bayonet to swap?

thanks

rethreading flash hider?

I've been wondering the same thing.

Most posts have recommended cutting, rethreading and re crowning the barrel but that doesn't seen like a good idea on an already short bush rifle.

I remember some one talking about rethreading a flash hider but I can't find the post....

Re: rethreading flash hider?

Rethreading is easy. 9/16 X 24 left hand tap will do it. However the big question is are the threads weakened by this process. Also you will have to cut a slot on the bottom of the barrel for the donut washer and you will also need a crush washer. If your intent is a safe queen then I see no problems.

SLR-5000 Recut the threads on my L1A1 flash hider so it will screw on either inch or metric barrels.
Did it cheap also.

Have you had any problems with the rethreaded flash hider?

and ....

Would reaming the flash hider help durability? I'm thinking something similar to the NM ream they do an an m14...

Nope, not yet and I really don't expect to either.
The rest... I have no clue.
You can ask SLR-5000 maybe he knows.

my barrel is already short enough that i don't think i could cut anything off and be left with a legal rifle. also i'm not sure if my brake is permanently attached. the rifle is no safe queen, so what ever i do i'll want it to work under conditions.

Just out of curiosity, but why would you even want to attach a bayonet especially a "bowie knife" type? Are you planning on joining a bayonet charge sometime? I can understand if someone wants add one for historical acuracy, but on a non-safe queen it doesn't make sense to me.

At the ranges I frequent, they won't let you charge the target with a bayonet. You can put it on, but you can't advance past the firing line when the range is hot. Then when the line is cold, they won't let you handle weapons. Makes it really hard to practice, IMHO.

i'm not really keen on the idea of charging anything with a bayonet. but i am one of those crazy bastards that would rather have something and never use it... lets think about it, if the sh** really hits the fan you might need one. maybe i should have posted this in survival and preparedness.

No, that's the gas-plug - the bayonet clips onto the flash-hider
