cavim 92 vrs FM"FLB" Argentina lot 05 FLB 03

Ufdah, a good day.
Was really bummed about a Fed Arms STG 58 I bought after getting CAI crap. It too was a CAI. Underside of receiver is identical in butchery as posted by gun plummer(except the grinder got away from them and tore up the mag well).

After topping with a Russian 8 power I tested Cavin 92...5-7 inch 5 shot groups at 100 yards. I planned to dump the gun as it's looks and accuracy were not acceptable.

A buddy got me a case of Argentia as described above. Ten shots in 3.5 inches.
Not the best...but I can live with the uglies and this accuracy. A trigger job and different scope might tighten this a bit.

All testing from bench in Stuart vice. Had bolt lock back 2X with Argentina ammo but I'm guessing the mag base had pressure on it.

What type of accuracy can I expect from the STG 58 variants? For real...not one or two shot groups! Any surplus ammo types particularly noted for the best accuracy?

Any sources for reasonably priced 5 or 10 shot mags?
Thanks, Eric

A properly assembled/headpsaced StG must shoot <2.5" at 100m. There are some variations in the metric and Inch-pattern instructions. Headspace plays a critical factor. CAI is not well known for headspace expertise.

Portuguese FMP
Hirtenberger
Radway Green (especially later variants)
USGI, especially LC headstamps
FRG NATO-spec

EMDII,
Thanks. Can you advise how many shots are required for that grouping? I can pull that off with three but not five shots. Obviously,
I'm a variable.

Just a guess but I'd like to come up with mil surplus made with fairly long grain extruded powder. Any thoughts or other web sites you can point me two.

For anyone that cares. The Cavim is boxer primed, heavy brass and uses a very fine ball pwdr w/ 143 gr FMJBT. I have not tried reloading it but suspect it might hold up well.

The Arg is berdan with two tone 143 gr FMJBT. Both are sealed at both ends but there's a lot less primer lacquer on the Arg
so the bolt stays much cleaner.

Mike, I need my chronograph back.

Best accuracy I have obtained from a FAL was with the "Dangerous" Chilean ammo. 1.5 inch at 100 yds, battle sights. I'm still looking for more "dangerous" Chilean.
