.308 ammo ID?
Need some help on the source of some ammo...Bought some 7.62mm said to be Portugese surplus. It's in repackaged 20rd tan cardboard boxes inside a 240rd steel GI can. 2 types of head stamps. HD or H1 at 12 o'clock with 7.62 at 6 o'clock. No Nato cross, no date. Stuff shots very well, but hot, it cycles at gas setting 7 or 6!! Brass is very shiney, primers have a green sealant. Thank's Ray

If at 12 o'clock it is HP instead of HD or H1 it could be Hirtenberger Patron HP of Austria.
Hope this helps, Ammo Guy 8-) "Aim small, miss small". |

HD and H1 is Singapore. Very hot stuff, in one of my rifles I could get 30 foot ejections on "7" In a worn out R1 that only works on "1" or "2" with aussie it would run on "5".
Much of what I have seen was repacked into port or south african boxes after being tumbled, then packed in 200 round, clear plastic "battle packs" |
