Ammo ID (French)
I have some ammo I bought a couple of years ago from J&G Sports. It is marked "50 CARTOUCHES de 7,62 MM N Mle 1961
ETUIS : Laiton -SFM-73 AMORCES : M'e 1961 -3-SFM-72 BALLES : O M'e 1961 POUDRE : GB. Sp (0,5) -38-A-72 CHARGE : 2.85g" It came in a traingular box, 100 rounds linked together. There is a Nato cross on the box. The jacket seems to be cupro nickel. Is this stuff corrosive? It it garbage, or safe to shoot in my FAL? My guess would be French military. Any opinions appreciated! Yes, I grew up there, spent 3 1/2 years in the military, mostly as a computer operator/programmer. Left in 1984 at the age of 26, and lived in Rochester, New York for 5 years before moving to Phoenix. Still miss the place (no, not New York) and visit often, but enjoy the USA and especially Arizona a lot more.

France was still in NATO in 1961, IIRC. Sounds right, although it may also be Belgian.
Etuis: Case Amorce: Fuze/primer Balles: Projectile Poudre: Powder Charge: Weight of powder Even if it is corrosive, you'll just need a good cleaning in the barrel and gas system. Can I cut/paste this into the LONG thread I created on headstamp markings? [This message has been edited by EMDII (edited September 08, 2000).]

The way you listed the label is the same as on some French mfg 7.5 boxes I have.(the order & content not cal.)This also concurs with my DST-1160G-514-81-VOL 1---US Army Small-Caliber Ammo ID Guide Vol 1---All French ammo that I've seen has been Berdan/Corr.

Well Hagar I met a girl about 10 years ago here in S.W. FL. that had moved to the US from S. AFRICA. She was the most beutiful woman i have ever met, someone saw what i had seen and wisked her away to michigan about a year after i had met her. I will always remember her name, it is ( if my spelling is correct ) Annaken. She was so good looking. PAT
