Polished 642 .38 and my new M&P compact 9
I prefer a shiny stainless gun to a plain black one so I put some elbow grease in to these polish jobs.
The 642 wasn't too bad as it just needed 400 grit then 00 steel wool then finish up with 0000 and mothers mag polish. The M&P Compact 9 is my latest purchase and I did like the flat black finish but being that the slide is stainless underneath the finish I thought I should liberate the real stainless finish hiding underneath. It was a real Bi*ch to get all the black finish out of the rear serrations. The photo isn't the best but it looks like a mild polish job as the metal surface has a bead blasted type finish to start with. To get it to a mirror finish it would take a polishing wheel and some compound.... BTW the M&P shoots great. At 10 yards I put the first 2 mags through it and they were all in one ragged 2" hole. Not bad for a very compact 9mm and with 12 rounds, it has plenty of ammo. I'm currently waiting on the 2 free mags and my $50 rebate. ![]()

Them are purty. I like stainless too, I live near the ocean, my truck gun would get rusty if it weren't stainless. AMHIK

That's a really great look on both of them. The contrast of the markings and trademarks are very attractive as well.
