FALO ejection problem

Still need some help with my beautiful FALO. I followed previous suggestions (I have two good manuals) cleaned everything (including removal of extractor) very well. She still fires 3 to six rounds then the extracted case is turned completely around jamming the new round stripped out of magazine. Am using Hirtenberger and British ammunition, both NATO mil spec. Gas regulator adjusted numerous times for test; 5 is best. When she functions, brass is thrown near (within inches) and far (up to ten feet or so). Am very experienced with small arms (ex Marine - Vietnam plus owner of numerous other guns since the war. This is my first FAL and I love her - please help me in this.

Thanks a lot in advance to all you good people at this excellent site!

HAVE YOU GONE THREW THE STEPS TO AJUST GAS PISTON.START WITH 1ROUND IN MAG. AJUST REGULATER DOWN TILL BOLT LOCKS BACK.TRY 2 ROUND IF IT CYCLES BOTH GAS REGULATER SHOULD BE OK.IS GAS PISTON AND TUBE VOID OF ALL OIL? IF OIL IS ON EATHER IT WOULD GIVE FALTY AJUSTMENT AND MAY NOT CYCLE COMPLETLY .JUST A THOUGHT SINCE I DONT KNOW WHAT ALL YOU HAVE DONE

Erratic short strokeing is what it sounds like this is usually an cummulutive mal function of a couple of different problems.
Might suggest checking for smooth piston travel as this is an common defect and remove the main recoil spring and check for a kink in the inner or outer springs. Both these have plagued me at one time or another. Take care.We are here for you.

I had a kit that was a pristine Steyr FAL that bugged me to death for about a year with inconsistant stoppages. I even swapped barrels once to see if the problem would go away.
I would shoot some times with no problems then next time every 5th or 6th round would be laying backwards in the receiver or stuck in bewteen the bolt and receiver.

I finally swapped the extractor out with another rifle and guess what - the other rifle now had the same problem.
The extractor was out of spec.
It was not worn and anyway.
The kit was really like new.
Just a bad extractor.

The one-piece extractor (common on FALOs) is a real bugger. Replace it. If you're flush, get a newer bolt w/the 2-piece extractor.
