Barrel Timing
I bought a new DSA reciever from one of the members here on the Forums and my barrel hand tightens to 10 - 10:30. I'm pretty sure it will not time right once properly tightened. This is a DSA barrel that I previously had installed on a Century reciever and it timed perfect. I also tried a metric barrel that I had laying around and the timing is the same as the DSA barrel. I know that I've read that barrels can be shaved to correct the timing, but this is a new reciever and a DSA barrel which should time out right without any shaving. Has any one else had any problems like this and would DSA make it right, even though I'm not the original buyer? Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

I think hand tight to 10:30 is a good place to start.I would try to draw it in from there, sometimes you can sometimes you cant.It is not uncommon to trim a barrel before installation.I dont think the new barrel and reciever would necessarily time correctly.Try a search for bbl timing tons of good info here.

Once you put the receiver in a proper wrench along with the barrel retained by a good fixture, you can time it okay from 10-10:30. Remember that you have a coating of park on both the barrel and the receiver. You can take some fine sand paper and take the park off along with any burrs on the barrel shoulder to get it closer before adding torque. The park coating is only 1 or 2 thousandths of an inch thick and that equates to several degrees rotation.
Bottom line, go for it. You won't hurt a thing.
