Bargain Bin Mousegun Range test

I bought one of the CMMG $550 AR rifles. My first mousegun. Recieved a DPMS lower/20" HBAR flatop upper. Not a mark or blem anywhere until I looked under the handgaurd and found a bump on the side of the barrel that looks like someone touched it with a stick welder just enough to leave a splat/bump of metal there. It is parked with the rest of the barrel. Can't see it so no biga deal.

There was no rear sight, I put on a ARMS 40L BUIS that flips up when needed and has a couple selectable notches for different ranges. Not sure what ranges they are set for but I will find out. Nice if you can focus on them, which I cannot(old eyes). However The main aperature works good for me.

Had a Aimpoint comp m2 waiting for such a platform. A freind of mine had given it to me awhile back.

I got out yesterday to garland public shooting range, got me a spot at lane 32 which a 50yrd and 100yrd combo lane.
Slight intermittant wind, 40 or 50F I think, grey sky.

Went through 80 rounds of Monarch 55gr soft point which I had on hand just for going to this range as they don't allow FMJ.
Did not have any failures to feed, function or fire. Nice!

I noticed the recoil spring movement under my cheek for a little bit then I got used to it and discounted it from there, no problem.

Trigger creep is a problem but breaks better than I expected. Not bad for bargain bin rifle I am thinking.

Shot with the irons first and got them adjusted without problem. Front sight post visibility was very good, and the large rear sight aperature was just perfect, it works with my old eyes much better than a notch.
I farted around a little bit adjusting the rear sight until I got acceptable results at both 50 and 100 yrds, then mounted the Aimpoint.

At this point I was pretty pleased and likin' this rifle alot. Feels good and is easy to shoot.

The aimpoint is like cheating. very impressive. It was set way high and took some cranking to get POI down. Love the clarity, brightness and everything about this optic but did seem to have a problem with the shape of the red dot changing from shot to shot. I dunno if it was me or the scope but the 4moa dot would change from a perfect circle to a circle with a little tit on it. Almost like two dots---- which caused me some confusion. I did not get the perfect circle very often and felt like the changing of the dot affected the accuracy of my hold...
over all I really like the aimpoint on this rifle and look forward to more testing!

Its still hard for me to get over the fact a 20rd box of .223 feels empty compared to .308, 30-06 or 8mm.

I think I am going to like this rifle alot. I am very pleased with it.

Went thru 80 rounds and wanted to shoot more but I had yet to test my chi-com SKS and the romainian G-series AKI also brought out with me----plus the cowboys was on and the family was waiting for me to cook thanksgiving din-din.

I'm hopin maybe there will be a little something in this post that's useful to someone.

Hope you-all had a happy thanksgiving!

Here you can see the progress moveing the ARMS 40L BUIS into proper adjustment. This was at 50 yrds.

Great! I wished I'd known about these rifles when they were available as my cousin wants an AR and you can't hardly build one for the cost.
The recoil spring "boing" and vibration can best be solved by greasing the spring and the inside of the tube. Don't overdo it though. You don't want grease flying around at every shot.

Sweet!

Have they done sold out of all the bargain-bin guns?

If it be aristocratic in organization, then it seeks to protect the man who is superior only in law against the man who is superior in fact; if it be democratic, then it seeks to protect the man who is inferior in every way against both. One of its primary functions is to regiment men by force, to make them as much alike as possible and as dependent upon one another as possible, to search out and combat originality among them. All it can see in an original idea is potential change, and hence an invasion of its prerogatives. The most dangerous man to any government is the man who is able to think things out for himself, without regard to the prevailing superstitions and taboos. Almost inevitably he comes to the conclusion that the government he lives under is dishonest, insane and intolerable, and so, if he is romantic, he tries to change it. And even if he is not romantic personally he is very apt to spread discontent among those who are.

I've been on the fence ever since I saw the first post here about the bargain guns. After seeing your post and the pics of your mousegun I decided to bite the bullet (pun intended) and buy one of the chrome barrel M4A3s. Had them throw in 10 of the new 30 round mags while they were at it.

How long did it take before yours showed up at the gun shop you used to ship it to?

piperpilot i got the ship notice on wed nov 14 and got the call from my ffl friday nov 16, pretty quick shipping. I ordered it fri nov 9 and there was just a little snafu about CMMG finding the FFL my dealer sent up there but they got it resolved quick with no hassle. Good transaction and better than advertised product IMHO.

I expected it to be more dirty than it was when I cleaned it yesterday afternoon. I think my G3 gets dirtier!

They sure must have a buttload of these rifles, there was another post here about them and ther is one over on ar15.com as well.....

I will try some grease on the recol spring to damp the boinging there, thanks for that tip!

I just picked one of these up as well, DPMS lower, M4 clone flat top upper, mine came absolutely like new and I didn't even opt for the handpick, this is definitely a good deal if anyone is looking for an AR
