Front sight install/adjust: Do i need a special tool?

seems like i can get it in there with my fingers if i leave the spring out. what is a good rule of thumb for getting the elevation right?

Inch Swiss Army knife. Metric, snap ring pliers.

I'm surprised you didn't recommend a piece of silverware, knowing your accomplice's preference for one.

I bought one of the combo devices that Gunpartsguy sells. Actually, I have bought many of them because I kept losing them... and finding them... and losing them. The up side is that I now get to keep one in the glovebox of each car and one in my range box.

They are cheap. Plus, I will never have to answer to the wife if she finds one of her (formerly) nice forks in the glovebox. (Those darn kids!)

Tip from another faler, the large black office paper clip things with the handles that flip,... the handles with the bent ends cut off work great.

I use a pair of small needle-nose pliers that I keep in the range bag.
