Izzy heavy barrel

So I walk into my local shop to get FFL info for a receiver. Lo and behold there is an Izzy HB on the wall. SO I ask to look it over the lower has Ser# 3121, and the upper is a CAI Imbel with number 113XXX. Everything else is Izzy, but with no bipod I can't really tell if it's a kit or a CAI build, which obviously would have been a kit too, but..... It's has a fair amount of wear on it, any guess as to its value??. There is not a single US part on it.

Sounds like someones build. I don't think CAI ever made an Izzy version.

Izzy build

Sounds like someone got ahold of the receiver and a Izzy HB kit aand slapped it together. Typical. We have alot of that come thru the gunshows down here in SE Florida.

CAI did offer an Izzy HB version. It came w/o the bipod and the barrel was cut short with a new muzzle device. Most came with black painted furniture. Real crap jobs, but recoverable. Not sure which type of receiver they came with.

First ones offered came with chopped barrel (no FH, bipod coupler, or bipod), Bell&Carlson thumbhole stock, and Imbel receiver (type III). At the time, most of the CAI FALs were L1A1s, also on Imbels and it's my belief that's the reason my FALO came with an inch cut Imbel (topcover tabs, charging handle cut, and wide mag well cut). Receiver is marked L1A1 Sporter, or something like that. The only tricky part in fitting a normal stock was having to bend forward the pistol grip stud that had been bent back in order to "fit" the pistol grip angle of the butthole stock (later, I just bought a clean one from Sarco, along with new furniture).

I eventually had MrBonecrusher reassemble mine on a regular, metric, Imbel and use my inch-cut Imbel to assemble an L1A1 -- he does GREAT work; thanks again Mike! He was even able to fabricate a sleeve shaped like the end of the FALO barrel, that extended it to normal length and allowed for the attachment of the bipod and flash hider (this is currently a spare as he installed an excellent oem FALO bbl on the rifle itself.). If it weren't for a very faint line where the two parts meet on the barrel, one would be hard-pressed to notice the job he did; that's how good it is.

At about $350, the FALOs were a little more expensive than the regular $300 L1A1s (I'm guestimating, but do have the SGN ad somewhere...bit of a pack rat with hobby-related stuff, I guess).
