different screw lengths for butt plate?

Are there different length butt plate screws?

I went to put a Belgian C stock on my STG today and discovered the butt plate screw was too short. I have to back off the return spring screw for the butt plate screw to reach it.

There are several different length screws. The South African long stocks take an even longer screw. The correct screw should be available from one of the usual vendors or maybe someone here has a spare.

I guess it is pretty obvious. Just something I didn't think about. The screw on the STG stock was just under 1". Looks like I need a 2" screw for the longer C type.

A too-short screw is an obvious problem, but I cannot for the life of me imagine how using a screw that is longer than you "need" would present any functional difficulties.

I worry that using a screw that is too long would keep the rattail on the bolt carrier from traveling far enough to the rear to reliably extract, eject, or feed.

Take your existing bolt to your local hardware store and find a replacement - you will possibly find it in an allen head configuration. Had to do this for a couple of shooting buddies with long neck syndrome. They converted to long SA stocks.

I've gotten help in terms of a new screw. Lots of great forum help. Just need the USPS to do their part.

As for a longer screw causing a problem, I don't see how it could. The spring tube is 9" long from the rear of the receiver. The rat tail extends just over 3" into the tube during full recoil.

Just feeling a bit silly that I didn't realize a longer butt stock would also require a longer screw... Doh!
