Generous chamber question
What would be considered to much?
I was messing with my rig earlier and inserted a Port rnd in the chamber and noticed that it has about .008" horizontal & vertical. Not that I have had any issues with it, I'm just wondering how much is considered to much. The barrel is a typical Imbel, looks like it was never fired. |

What does the base/web area of a piece of fired brass mike in comparison to a piece of unfired brass?

OFV fired brass measured here, .472"
![]() Opening the safe to get unfired ammo will likely result in me getting whatever I am rooting around for beat over my head at the moment. But my calibrated thumb said that unfired Port has .008" slop in the chamber. |

toast ....it will still run but eraticly your bullet is probably up against the lans (load one drop bolt and check for a ring around the bullet collar ..he ..if so ....id rebarrel ..remember when ya get most of the kits they are half worn out .already ..wont last forever ...10- 13 k rounds there done ....ya may notice the ejection is feelin a bit steppy ...for lack of a better term ..case is still swelling as its trying to pull it from the chamber ......worst part is the headspace is now how well the bullet is seated ....and ya may be pushing them into the case ..as the contact point is the bullet against the lans and bore not the sides of the chamber as when tight .......
standard procedure is once the bullet has 0 "bullet jump" to the lans and bore ....they (can) be real accurate ..one of my L1s touched holes at 100 yds ..and it was in the same condition ....but ejection was eratic ....and found OAL differences sure hated retiring that barrel ....but can do the same with setting reaload OAL to each rifle .. i would deffinately replace it ...bad things could happen if your shoving bullet into the case feeding them ....kinda like bashing ammo into the ramp with 18 lbs behind pushing ...ya just never know .those bullets arent welded in the case ....THEY WILL MOVE .......be safe .. |
