Something for the specialist , advice wanted

Yesterday I found this bayonet at a flee market . Didn't buy because I have already some of them .
This bayo has the correct measurements but as you can see is chromed and has wooden handguards . The quality is very high and the bayo has a FN date stamp . The scabbard is the standard one for the pronged bayo .
What is this ?

Wow! That's a high quality piece judging from your pics. As you know, proofmark indicates 2nd qtr of 1962. It looks like it was made for parade dress or a presentation piece of sorts. Nice find, at 80 euro (113.usd) the price is kind of steep but I'd buy it as you don't see those everyday(at least on this side of the Atlantic).

Not T48, incorrect scabbard. T48 should also have S/N. Nor would it be chromed. I can't remember if the T48s were small- or large-hole.

I would have grabbed it.

It is indeed the T48 model . But the scabbard is not the original short one and the chrome and wooden hand guards makes it a mystery . The total quality of the bayo is very high . In my opinion it cannot be the work of one person who liked to make something to his on taste .

Don't confuse "T48" with "Type B". The T48 bayonets were simply Type B bayonets provided with the T48 trials rifles. As shown, at least one variety of scabbard is uniquely made for US webbing.

The photos of the T48 show it is a "large hole" level as well.

Not to hijack but where is this stuff when I am in Mortsel/Antwerp. I never seem to get away from the hotel or the office. I did find a store by the theater but it was never open. Very sad for me

Very nice bayonet and it would be a Parade bayonet for one of the countries that have the Long flash eliminator. Being made in 1962 would seem to narrow it down.

Who ever it was intended for would of had all wood furniture and watched the bayonet to match. I would of brought the bayonet for the 80 euro as it's a unique piece.

It's got an early bayonet catch on it.

I very well may be wrong, thought I had some pics or lit around that showed the Belgians using the Type B but then again, I read enough to forget a lot

my humble opinion, the bayonet was part of one of those official special orders to the Fabrique Nationale; complete highly polished FAL's meant as presentations to retiring high ranks, or a leftover of these limited productions.
I was eye witness to a few such intimate ceremonies.
