note the differences in the pics, took pics of a 10rd mag to compare with the .223 mag adaptor on the SAR 4800.

I asked Derek for a list of the differences between .223 and .308, trying to think about spare parts. This is what he comes up with. "Service above and beyond..." Thank you Sir.

The shot of the .223 mag well adapter and the 10 round .308 mag sort of twisted my mind. Weird, man.

It's an SAR 4800. Post Ban. Thumbhole stock. Derek is Americanizing it for me. I don't think they have been imported for some time now. You'll have to look for a used one. I have heard, but not been able to confirm, that only 1500 of the .223 were brought into the country.

Prices seem to be running between $1000 and $1400.

the mag catch bar is welded to the hinge rod, and the whole thing slides through the bushing that serves as a hinge, very odd.

I shot the thing today, wow!

What a pussycat and pretty accurate too.

I was shooting 55gr SPs that I loaded myself, with 25.5gr of AA2230 powder, locked open on about "3", cant tell cause there are no numbers on the gas adjusting nut., tried a few more clicks, hoping to tune out what little recoil there was and it stopped working reliably so I turned it back a couple and it rocked through the rest of the mag.

I ran a couple more mags through it, just to make sure it was working well. D.

This would be a dream FAL in .223 cal. -

1. DSA ALLOY LOWER and whatever other alloy parts that I could fit on the upper.

2. Alloy Milspec Logistic's Scope Mount or DSA's mount and some type Compact Red-dot scope.

3.Para rear sight.

4.13.5" barrel with a fax FH of some type DSA or Tapco style, maybe a custom, installed to OAL of 16.25". fax FH to be made of Titanium.

All in all it would be a .223 Light Weight DSA Elite configuration.

Light and fast handling - with almost NO recoil!

Now, all we need is the Barrels.

All other parts are already available.

Any barrel makers willing?

I wonder what it would weight? 6.5 lb or so?

Interesting speculation. Before I shipped it off to Derek I snapped on a DSA alloy lower just to see what it would look like. The weight difference was very noticable. It got me thinking about what would be possible if if cost were no object. Type 1 upper and alloy charging handle, shorten the full length gas tube too.

I noticed in the recent DSA posts that they plan a model in .243. Now that would be something to have!

Personally, I found the rifle to be a tad heavy but well-balanced, I dont think the LW lower would help the balance, if anything it may make it a bit front-heavy.

I have a viceral dislike for front-heavy weapons.

MP5SD comes to mind, but it's so cool that it doesn't matter. D.
