Thanks very much - now one last question. Is this any harder on the bore of the rifle than copper would be?

Perhaps, but my guess is an academic difference. It has an advantage - I have never had metal fouling after shooting gp11 - but my copper jacketed reloads leave a good bit of copper behind.

Have you pulled one of the bullets and looked at its shape - it is a very complex shape with very fine aerodynamic qualities ?- I wish I could get the projectiles.

Actually steel bullets are usually slightly softer than copper bullets, they use a really soft steel. Someone did a rockwell test on steel bullets vs copper bullets here on the files a few years ago and the steel bullets tested softer.

I have done the pocket knife test and find they usually do scratch easier than the copper bullets.

Do you really think the Swiss would use a bullet that would wear thier barrels out quicker?

I think you find Nickel over steel in the Swiss GP11... Don't know about Tombac..... as that is an alloy of Copper and Zinc what us Americans call Guilding metal. Have not seen Tombac on GP11

I haven't pulled a bullet and taken a look - yet. Thought it was a standard boattail.
