Horizontal belt pouch

I use a Microtech UT6 D/A OTF knife as my EDC. I prefer horizontal carry on my belt, as it's less conspicuous and doesn't poke me getting into and out of the car. I've gone through three nylon Microtech horizontal belt pouches, and my third one is getting raggy.

Does anyone know of a source for a GOOD horizontal leather belt pouch with a cover flap that would fit a UT6 on a 1-3/4" x 5/16" Galco gun belt? Closed, the knife is 4-1/2" long x 1" wide including switch x 5/8" thick including clip. I'd like it to fit snugly, but not so tight it's hard to put into and out of the pouch, and would like seams facing inwards so as to not be too bulky. I prefer a black one to blend with the belts I wear.

I've searched for something like this, and can't find anything really good. I can't afford to have a good one custom made, although that's what I'd prefer. Most of the leather belt pouches I've come across are all vertical carry, which I don't want.

Any suggestions?

George, I actually bought a leatherworking kit from Tandy Leather recently to try and do something similar. I'd offer to make you one, but I'm new at this and don't want to over-promise and under-deliver, y'know?

Still, might be an idea for you to look into it for yourself

Thanks Andy. I'm afraid what I want might be pretty complicated and difficult to make except maybe for a skilled holster guy. As much as I hate to, I might have to turn to a custom holster maker. Story of my life. I'll have to hold off and save my pennies, and make do with what I have for a while.

Mike Sastre can make horizontal Kydex/Concealex sheaths for any setup you'd like. He's at RiverCitySheaths.com (http://www.rivercitysheaths.com/)

There are a number of sheathmakers on BladeForums that can help. Dave (Lifter4Him) does nice work in NYC.(http://members.aol.com/lifter4him1/m.../business.html)

Edit: Just checked out Lifter's sheaths at the link hso posted, and I'm definitely outclassed before I even got started (so what else is new?). Wow, what beautiful work he does... *drool*

I sent Dave a E-mail describing the knife and asking if he can make what I want, and if so, how long it would take and how much.

In the meantime, I'll still take pix of my existing pouch for you Andy, even if only for reference for the future.

Thanks, George - although that looks like a regular pouch. I had understood you to say that your current pouch was for horizontal carry - the last pic showing the rear looks like it has a loop for vertical carry, or am I missing something?

Actually, it's both. The primary sleeve is for horizontal carry, with a loop for vertical carry attached on top of that. For some reason, my camera was acting funny, and the pictures weren't as sharp as I had expected, but if you look carefully, you may be able to see the ends of the horizontal belt sleeve.

I can try to take another picture if that would help, and I'll be glad to.

Just let me know.

Ahhh, ok, got it - and that fits a 1 3/4" belt? See, I'm trying to get an idea of total pouch width, which would make it about 2" wide if my calcs are correct.

Close, Andy.
About 2-7/16".
That includes the sides where the top is stitched to the bottom, looking at it when it's laid down flat.
