I'd say M48, too. However, if it doesn't have the hole in the base for the cleaning rod to pass through, it's for an FN49, but I don't see any markings that would indicate that it is indeed for an FN49.

It's an M1949 Short Export intended for an FN-49 rifle (note the double edge - the Mauser bayos were all single edge). If you measure the inside diameter of the muzzle ring, you should find it to be about .72" - quite a bit larger than a Mauser muzzle ring diameter.
From the grey paint, I would expect that this bayo is from the Belgian contract. Are there markings on the pommel? Is there a serial number? Goose Last edited by Goose52; July 06, 2007 at 16:55. |

Without seeing markings, the primary identifying features that relate it to FN-49 use is the double-edge and the muzzle ring diameter. Goose |

Thanks you guys! Yes It has no cleaning rod hole.
Markings on the pommel are: SA3C and serial # 39479. It also has a stamp on it that looks like a circle with an M (M) Muzzel ring hole is indeed about .72 So an FN49 Bayonet....! Cool Thanks again for all of the help. Last edited by N8Gunnr; July 06, 2007 at 23:39. |

The "SA3C" marking is actually SA30...
This is a mid-range Belgian bayo - repainted gray while in Belgian service. Goose |

Hello Belgian contract gray FN 49 bayonet. Northridge had them in April at the Wanamacher show. They were brand new. Thanks EX1

Smokey Mountain Knifeworks sells these too.
They're not very expensive, in the neighborhood of $15 when I bought mine a year or two ago.
