Tasco Super Sniper 20x Review

Overated!
Many reviews that I read rated it with $500 glass.-not-
It may be woth the price of $274.95. But I do not have a scope in this price range to compare to.
I compared it to my Redfield Varmit 6x24x50.
1/3 more expensive.
Redfield has a sharper image. (brightness oviously better with the 50mm objective on the redfield).
eye releif/placement must be exact or gets hazzy/fogy/blury. -un-forgiving-
Redfield is full clear image or not.
Turrets, can hardley feal them click -mush-
I sent it back for a B&L4200 let ya know how that is.

Yikes!

The 10X I have compared very favorably w/ a Vari-X Leupold MilDot 3x10 on a shooting partner's USMC-built 700.

The turrets don't snap on mine, they're soft but not mushy. I'm sure they're mechanically identical between the 10x and 20x. However, they do pass the 'standard' precision marksman repeatability test. They are positive.

As for the optics, you suppose doubling the power seriously affected the light-gathering ability? The Leupold was marginally brighter than the Tasco.

The Tasco ranges very accurately on the MilDots. And the 10x has a larger swweet spot on eye-relief than you describe for the 20x. Optics, again.

Good report. I haven't look at a Redfield, favoring Burris, even over Leupold. Might have to look at one if I need another scope.

The Redfield I have is when they were USA made. They went belly up and Blout purchased the name and now have them made in Japan. The High End Varmit version is no longer made.

And I think you are right on the money about the 10x. The higher the power the better the glass/workmanship is needed to expect the same image quality at 20x.

This is one of the reasons I will not purchase a varriable 32x in the $400 range.
I cannot beleive the resolution would be there at the high settings.

I've had the 10X and 16X versions.
The optics seem decent to me but I didn't expect a Leopold Mark4.

The mushy turrurts are a drag but easily fixed. Remove the turrets and clean up of the silcone grease helps but you can do what I did - replace the o-rings with thinner ones. The turrets will click smartly.
