Who uses free floating HG's on a Fal?
I just put this baby together tonight and forgot to put the hand guard retainer ring on before I twisted on this Steyr barrel on (I know..
flame away), so I decided to use this Free floating HG that has been in my tool box for a couple years, they don't use the retainer ring. So my question is.... do they actually help accuracy? Who else uses these things?

How about a Izzy HB kit?
I'll be putting one on marketplace soon, unless you want it.

Don't forget that both DSA and Falcon Arms have taken care of you: their 2 piece handguard ring slips on AFTER the barrel is in situ.

Tactical Tim has the Ed Vandenberg (threads to base of barrel) version on his 3-Gun FAL. It reduced his group size considerably - maybe by half.
Ed also threaded the G1 barrel and installed his brake at the same time. The added weight plus the brake cut recoil by a good 50% or more (believe it or not). The combination has made a big difference in Tim's scores.

He sure did - I didn't see the RO's shoot (was the day before I arrived), but from perving over his scores, he's not just accurate, he's very fast as well

The combination has made a big difference in Tim's scores. I agree with Shootist87122 in that the EVB freefloat improved the accuracy of my most accurate FAL. The recoil is also reduced considerably. The EVB brake is effective in pretty much eliminating muzzle flip for the all-important follow up or 2nd shot but the noise is greatly increased. The EVB forearm also has a lug for an aftermarket (in my case a Harris) bipod. It proved very useful in this month's MGM Ironman 3-Gun match in which I placed 8th in my class (Heavy Tactical). I think I was the only competitor to use iron sights. I'll send a picture of the rifle to Shootist & perhaps he can post it. Easy, T |
