Glock floorplate removal

Hey
Just got a Glock 26 sub compact over the weekend. One of the mags needed a finger extension so i picked it up tonight. My dealer warned me it's difficult to get the old one off. He wasn't joking. I've taken plenty of mags apart, but I seem to be missing something here. I've pushed the retainer button on the bottom of the mag in, but the floorplate won't budge. Any other Glock owners out there got any helpful tips or tricks to make this happen without me gouging up my hand or something.

Thanks

Gunner

IIRC, when I put the extensions on my G27, I had to push really, really hard to get the floorplate to slide off. Try holding in the button then pushing it the edge of the floorplate against the edge of a table. I think that's how I ended up getting them off.

Good luck!

Newer Glock magazines had tabs on the bottom of the magazine that engage with the floor plate. You have to depress the body of the magazine inward in order to disengage the tabs. It’s a pain in the butt. I bought a special tool from Brownells and its super easy now. It takes a lot of elbow grease to do it by hand.

The first time you do it, it will seem like you are breaking it.

It can be done with a punch of the right shape. You'll feel better about if you use the Glock tool - especially the first time it is done on a mag.

The trick is to use a punch (3/32 is the size of the Glock tool) and push the button (inner floorplate) up into the body an inch, then squeeze and pop the sliding floorplate off. It's a cinch once you get the inner plate up and out of the way, as that's what is keeping you from squeezing the tabs out of the way....

Don't worry about pressing in the sides...

get the punch, ram it in the hole about 3/8" to shove the inner plate up, and then pry the base plate forward. Won't hurt a thing. Done it hundreds of times, and am an experienced armorer....

I've always wondered about this myself. Thanks gunner 30 for posting the question, and to all for the advice

Thanks for the video. That's basicly what I was trying, just hate to use too much force. Guess that is what is required though. I did notice the tabs on the bottom of the new floorplate and assumed those needed to be depressed. Is always a bad idea to try things like when you are tired and it is bed time. Will give it a shake when I get back from my walk
