WII/surplusammo.com $99 Imbel FAL
The BBT arrived a full day behind the scheduled delivery but I finally got the surplusammo.com $99 Imbel kit. Thanks to Scott for promply shipping and providing the tracking number.
Greasy as hell does a good job at describing the cosmo immersed parts. First job was to unpack and inventory. First the accessories: The bayo, good condition. Got the bayo sheath, fair condition but the cotton webbing is tattered and ratty. Blank Adapter, good; PG cleaning kit, very good; 1 mag, good typical $5 DSA used surplus type. The rifle: PG, good; Buttstock & Pad, very good; Handguards, cracked and broken in two places on each half; overall finish = no original finish just black paint that is worn and chipping in many places. Lower is in good shape with no dings on back plate and no dents or problems with the steel. Internals (HTS etc) look very good. Bolt/Carrier, good+; Demiled receiver still holds the bolt catch, mag release, charging handle & locking shoulder. All appear to be in good shape. Gas plug & piston/spring, very good; Gas block, very good; Gas tube, very good; Front & Rear sights, very good. Now the Bad: The bore is awful. Lots of pitting all throughout. It may make an "ok" shooter but I don't see myself using this barrel. Probably get a new Imbel or Argy barrel. I am missing the locking lever and fire control selector, which is ironic because the lower parts are really what I was after when I purchased the kit. I'm going to use them on an aluminum lower. It's a bummer. I have e-mailed Scott so I am confident he will take care of these missing items. I'll post updates on that. Over-all, for a $99 grade III Imbel kit - it is a pretty darn good value. Especially when DSA charges about the same for just the STG "good" lower. I wish I had a good bore and all the parts were there but surplus is as much the "luck of the draw" as you can get. I'm sure Scott will take care of me on the missing stuff (this is my first purchase from him). Now some pics: Note the missing parts. The entire "greasy as hell" kit. Another greasy angle. MK EDITED to correct some spelling errors. ![]() [ November 30, 2001: Message edited by: MetalKnight ]

Looks like a candidate for a hosing at the coin-operated car wash.

Damn Gary! I could just see you at the local car wash. It's 3 AM and you're spraying away on your kit. Deputy Barney Fife pulls up and says "Son, What the f*ck are you doing?!!!"
