Got my TTC Tokarev romanian today....withpics 3/16/07

I got my Romanian Tokarev today. Ordered it from SOG as Century was out. No big deal as they all are imported by Century.
I ordered it monday, got it , of course tuesday.
I had seen 8 of these at a gun show last month and knew i needed one. All were nice. I got the hand picked at 239.95, $ 261 with shipping.
It came with a spare mag and new holster. I spent more time pulling paper out of the toe of the holster than taking the gun apart to check the barrel.
The gun is excellent, as is the bore. The barrel number does not match the the guns's ( but the number is not visable when assembled, so that's cool ).
While over all the gun is nice i did notice 3 minor probles.
1. the rear sight is loose, but i can loctite it, or stake it. and it will make sigting in a snap.
2. the right grip was not put on correctly, it was slightly higher than it should have been. I felt rather than saw the gap at first. quickly popped off both grips and reinstalled them right. Check yours.
3. the mag catch is a little sticky. But seems to be working better after repeated use.
As to the safety, i find it to be good, but you will probably NOT be able to remove it without damaging it. It appears the thing was pressed on. It does not interfer with disassembly.
A side note. I have a T54 frame I bought for experimentation. A friend welded up the safety hoes for me. he did a nice job, left all markings , including the F an S, and factory code. And of course the serial number. I was looking to build up a Tokarev from parts before the TTC became available.......
Overall the Romanian is nice, just sorry i couldn't get two. I have a Russian TT33, my Dad gave me. He picked it up in korea. I like Tokarevs and want to shoot em, but do not want to wear out my Russian . So the Romanian TTC is a good choice. Tho I still kick my self for missing the Polish Tokarevs when they were cheap.......
I 'll post pics if any one wants.....
I hope to shoot it this weekend, if i have any ammo left. my bro loved shooting it all thru his tokarev, but forgot to replace what he used.

You are wrong on the safety. it can be removed. For your education;

Remove your slide stop retainer completely, and then push the safety out, ejection port side to magazine release. It has a small pin inside on a spring, be sure it doesn't fall out. You'll want to clean all this out.

it WILL leave a GIANT hole oin the frame if you take it outl so I don;t really recomend it.

Sure wish they were C&R. I used to have a ChiCom TT33, that was sweet!

Getting a pistol permit in MO is a PITA.

What is the mfg year on your gun?

Will get pics later today... It was made in 1953. the mag in the gun does not match, but the spare, covered in grease is not numbered. I know the safety can be removed, but prefer the hole to not be visable.
I wish we could get the T 54's from Norinco still. you can in canada. nice new T 54's only cost 159.95 usd...
