Win. 1897 value range
What would be about in the ball park for a full choke version. The wood has some dents, the buttpad is worn out, and the finish is mangled. Everything else appears fully functional.

$350 if you can get it for that. Sounds like a stovepipe and I'd respond like that. Historical, but shot out and beat up. HTH neighbor!

Thanks Mark. I didn't realize they were that expensive these days. I was thinking about buying it from a friend who wants to sell it. I just want to give him fair market value, or let him know what it is so he can sell it to someone else without getting ripped off. This model is the first firearm I ever shot, dad still has his.

The value basis is sketchy at best from me, I would defer to the expertise of others more knowledgeable about the true value. I would suggest waiting a few days for more posts from those of greater expertise on that series. I wouuldn't want to see either party shorted on inherent value. It is typically a widow, and we need to be fair.
That being said, a beat one like that is in the $250 range at best. I would think that you might have a restoration project in your future. Mark

It is hard to find ANY Model 97 Winchester for less than $300 these days thanks to those damn Cowboy shooters. They used to be fairly in expensive and could be had for a couple of hundred or sometimes less as long as it was not some rare variant from the factory. Having regularly hunted with a Model 97 and a Model 12, I will say there is no gun I prefer more, yes they weigh a bit more than some modern offerings, but a good model 97 will not let you down when you need it
