Indian Brass for Reloading???

I was sorting through some 7.62 brass in preparation for a marathon reloading session, and found a bunch of Indian (OFV 79) brass that I picked up from a guy at the range many moons ago - before I knew what it was.

How is this brass for reloading? It's once fired through an M1A, and looks good. I'm wondering if it's soft or the primer pockets tend to be loose, or anything. I did note that the primer pockets are crimped, so I'll have to either swage or ream them. I've probably got 100 rounds or so, or else I wouldn't worry about it.

The brass is the best part of indian ammo....

It is good brass, I have tons of it that were fired through an MG. It sizes harder, because its heavy, and partly cause mine was run throgh an MG. Its acutally very good brass.

OK, stupid question time. I have some Indain OVF 75 ammo that has shown less than stelar accuracy. I *may* feed it to a semi auto 1919a4. I plan to save the ammo for use in bolt guns and maybe FAL. Will I need small base dies even after firing in a SA 1919?

I use X dies.... Most of mine came out of a 1919 MG or a MG42 in .308

The reason for the irratic performance of the 75 OV is that the powder charge weights vary more than a full grain from one round to another. The variance may actually be larger than 1 grain as I only disassembled about 20 rounds or so. If you have a cam lock collet type bullet puller, you can disassemble that ammo in a short period of time and reassemble it with consistant powder charges.

BTW, the OFV 75 is loaded with a short grain extruded powder.

gonna hold on to my indian brass. got a lot of 2230C surplus powder and primers,some small base .308 dies and some .308 surplus 165 gr black tips.
never know when they might come in handy.

I bought 500 OFV 79 back in the mid 80's. Good ammo, boxer primed and reloads well. Using 41gr IMR 4064 and 165 Rem Corelokts, accuracy is great in many weapons and case life is good. Have 10 reloads on some cases.
