Egyption would be my guess. If it is like their 9mm in similar packaging then it is 1) Hot and 2) Corrosive.

Spose you traded a Jeep and some cash for those couple of boxes.....I think you made out ok.....

Sorry mate....can let a chance go by.....

Actually it was like this..
I go to see this guy about a L/Cruiser he has for sale... Posed to be a real beauty?
While I am looking around the Truck I "KICK the Tire", you know us Tire Kicker types..
So anyway I kick the tire and the L/Cruiser starts Shakin a bit, next thing I know a Big Ole RUST HOLE opens up and this shitt falls out on the Ground..
Hell of a Surprise really, but since I was already there, and the ammo was sittiin on the ground I just bought the AMMO and Left the L/Cruiser to continue it return to the Earth..

Mosin Guy~
Thanks for the Link....
Sure looks to be the same stuff to me..
How does it shoot, anyone know?
I went back and searched some more and noted refference to the Shoulder being Longer than Normal?
Wonder IF it will chamber in my ISHY, or FR-8's?

......must'a been hiding the back right 1/4 panel...seems that is the rusty mofo spot in all them 'Cruisers... Probably a secret stash of 'Al Qaeda ammo imported in a "Technical" Landcruiser from Africa.....you probably missed a real good bargin mate....mind hooking me up with it....Osama may actually be hiding in the other 1/4 panel....and we know what the price on HIS head is....don't get no stiiiiiiiinking terrorists worth millions of dollars hiding out in no stiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiinking Jeeps now do ya........

I would be leery of that 'Gypo ammo mate. The 9mm was fun to blast through SMGs that belonged to the Gooberment here but I would not ave been wanting to use it in my own shooting irons.

As far as I can tell, this is Syrian manufactured 7.62mm NATO ammo from 1960...

The box top on the right in the top picture has the label upside down...

It reads something like

15 Cartridges 7.62mm Short
NATO
regular bullet, in box
slip 2 - 28- 1960

The left hand label (under the two bullet tips) contains info on the loading, including type of powder (the B.P. line) and weight of powder charge (in grams), which is about 45 grains...

The label on the other side of the box (mostly hidden from view in the top picture) contains the old symbol for the U.A.R., and says something like "Association of Defense Industries (Factory), Ammunition Factory"...

Kinda, anyway...

For what it's worth...

Hmmm, Syrian huh?? OK so "IF" the Box says "NATO" would this still be corrosive and possibly have the same "Shoulder Length" Issues as the Egyptian ammo is reported to have?
I wonder?

Thanx for the info Forrest..
Sorry about the Box having the label Upside down.. Never coulda proved it by me..

It is corrosive...

I'm not sure about shoulder length problems but, since the UAR included both Syria and Egypt, I'm guessing that the ammo was built to a common spec...

Hell I never even thought of that, it was mixed in a 50 Cal can of .308.
I bought the whole can, came home and seperated it to see what I had..
I will make sure it is .308 befoe I shoot it though.
"LOOKS" like .308 but I never have seen 7.5 Mas ammo before?

Yup...

And I forgot about that thread until you just mentioned it...

Damn, memory sucks (at least mine, anyway )...

And, Mike, if you want to make sure that some 7.5x54mm MAS wasn't stuck in the 7.62mm NATO boxes, just try to chamber the MAS in a 7.62mm NATO rifle. If it chambers, then either the ammoi is 7.62mm NATO or your rifle has an out-of-spec (really out of spec) chamber...

A 7.62mm NATO round has a diameter at the web, just on front of the extractor cut, of 0.470" (just like .30-06/7x57mm/8x57mm), and has a length from the cartridge base to the beginning of the neck just in front of the shoulder of 1.711". A 7.5x54mm MAS catridge has a diameter of .482" just in front of the extractor cut (with a rim slightly larger than that) and measures 1.825" to the beginning of the neck...

I actually have a case of the Syrian (or, UAR) 7.62mm NATO ammo...

I also have a couple of cases of the Syrian 7.5x54mm MAS ammo...

For what it's worth...

Label on the box lid says " 7.62" that looks like V,7r on there and the quantity is "15"...looks like 10 in our numers...

Syrian mfg 7.62x51mm ammo, and I bet you find it hard to chamber in a bolt gun....that is the stuff with the "long headspace" shoulder problem. Will do OK if your chamber is on the loose side of the NATO specs.....maybe.

Berdan / CORROSIVE for sure.....clean 'em or RUST 'em!

I used to have Syrian 7.5 packaged the same but that looks like 7.62 x 51 to me. If you aren't sure and wanna be safe compare it to a .308 round you'll see the same length or if it is 7.5 the 7.5 will be longer.

ftierson where did ya learn Arabic?

Side by side comparison shows it to be 7.62x51..
I just chambered several riunds in two Diff guns. My ISHY Enfield in .308, and one of my FR-8's..
No problems noted in the BOLT guns, but I may not shoot it in the FAL's?
Might try a few rouinds and find it shoots fine and just blast it all in one range trip and them just clean up that gun. I will be sure to post any worth while experiences when I get out with this.. Prolly this weeks range trip..

As usual lots of help readily available here on the Files..
Thanx

I bought a mixed bag of 308 brass on Ebay awhile back and got some brass that has exactly the same headstamps. It's Boxer primed.

Boxer Primed? Reloadable Syrian 7.62x51mm? That would surprise me as all I have seen from that mfg is Berdan/Corrosive primed stuff. This Factory was set up by the Yugoslavs and that was their habit as well.

That would be interesting stuff!

The primers in Mike's photos at the top of this thread look to be about .217" to me, and not .210"...

So, they're pretty clearly berdan...

(I tried to say that with a straight face, but didn't quite manage. Sorry...)

Wow Forrest you have Calipers for Eyeballs!

I am lucky if I can tell a C cup from a D cup these days!

But I still enjoy the View!

OK~
Just pulled down One round, found the following...

45 Gr charge of BALL Powder
144 Gr (?) FMJBT
BRASS Case, "BERDAN" Primed

Interesting Bullet Weight? I could see some variance of a Grain or so..
BUT I would have expected something Closer to 147 Gr Pill?
Guess MAYBE an Average of 100 May vary well be 147 Gr?
