Preban headspace what to do
Ok so I have a preban Argy and from time to time I switch out the standard lower with a Argy para lower. In the past I have always just switched the bolts and used the bolt serialized to the rifle in the para carrier. So today I decided to see if the para bolt would headspace in the receiver thinking there might not be too much difference in them. I put a NG gauge in and the bolt closed on it, just barely but it did. So I am thinking oh well just use the normal bolt with it, and then for no particular reason I headspaced the bolt that belongs in the rifle. It closes on a go gauge! Both of the bolts you can feel that it is ust barely too long. I have a field gauge and neither bolt comes close to closing on a field gauge. I have never had any problems out of the rifle and have never seen any indications of over pressure. So here is my questions. Is there something I am missing between HS for 308 and 7.62X51, Did the Argies just headspace long? I have never seen an Enfield that would not close on a NG gauge so is it the same thing? And should I headspace the gun again with a larger LS? I always HS my builds on the short side and that is the direction I am thinking. The other side is saying it a preban gun and not to Jack with it if it is running with problems.

I wouldn't worry about it as long as it does not close on the field. If it gets to bothering you just change locking shoulders. They are not that expensive.

I have checked the headspace on two seperate Type III receivered Belgian FAL's. Both of them closed on the .308 no-go gauge, not on the field.
If you want to try to squeeze a little more accuracy out of it or reload your brass, tighten the headspace a little. if you want it to function like a MBR, let it be.

Leave it alone unless you plan to shoot handloads.

Ok that is something I had planned to to do. So I should tighten it up if I want to shoot handloads through it?

I believe that HS for 308 is 1.630 - 1.634 HS for 7.62 nato is 1.632 - 1.636 There is a thread about this on the files somewhere. Dave
