And even if he is not romantic personally he is very apt to spread discontent among those who are.

interesting, but the feasable conversion these days is to 7.62X54R. this is just a bit of reaming of the chamber, and opening up the bolt face by .020". surefire under a dime a pop, compared to click bang at 20 cents.

Nonetheless you disgust me, and I take comfort in the knowledge that your obituary will be nowhere near as humorous as mine.

The next time I hear "THE RANGE IS NOW HOT", it just wont be the same.

Max tried another question. "What sort of people live about here?"
"In THAT direction," the Jin said, waving its right paw round, "lives a Han: And in THAT direction," waving the other paw, "lives a Ming Hare. Visit either you like: they're both mad."
"But I don't want to go among mad people," Max remarked.
"Oh, you can't help that," said the Jin: "we're all mad here. I'm mad. You're mad."
"How do you know I'm mad?" said Max.
"You must be," said the Jin, "or you wouldn't have come here."

the only improvement i can see with using a enfield to shoot 7.62x54R is the enfields powerbolt would deal with the sticky lacquered cases some x54R has.

however i cant see paying $160 for the conversion on top of the $110 i had to pay for the enfield itself when i can get a mosin for $70

but i do like the idea of 10 rounds instead of 5

Yeah, really. Or current ammo prices it might be more economical to convert 7.62x39 guns to take .303

Oh, come on, Compadre! The Lee-Enfield has the fastest, smoothest action of any bolt-action military rifle ever adopted by a major power. It's an absolute joy to shoot! I won't say the M-N isn't reliable, but fast, slick, and 'a joy to shoot' it definitely ain't.

(Just my opinion... ;>)

Interesting factoid: the 7.62x39 cartridge will chamber and fire safely in a shortened .303 British chamber. Many Australians just shorten the threaded end of the barrel to produce M-43 chambered L-Es, without any rechambering required (talk about 'cheap').

Because I believe that coincidences are a lot more rare than most folks think, it kind of makes me wonder if the Soviets based their M-43 cartridge case on a shortened & slightly modified .303 British case...

I like that thought BadBob. I'll check aroud and see if any local gunsmiths would do the cut and rechamber thing. I can't get MCA to return a phone call or emails about a chamber adapter.
