I don't have all that much rainproof clothing. I'd have to use a poncho, camoflage so not very low profile. That or use a tarp.
I'd say in 10 to 15 minutes I could put all that together and be gone. My pack would be an Alice, so that might not be iconspicuous either. |

To be quite honest I don't know why I have to place it by the front door when much of it is already in my truck and the rest of it only need have the garage door opened to access it. It is much quicker that way. I would have to back track to put it at the front door.

Some places the camo might be inconspicous just fine. Especially if its Wal-Mart pattern camo.
The swedish flectar might raise the wrong eyebrows though. Whatever it takes to be "inconspicuous." If you get stuck outside, waterproof makes a BIG difference. Gotta get your waterproof squared away.

15 mins from start to finish with the exception of the cash....most al of that gear you list lives in my "man cave" in a two door steel locker, packs are right next to it boots right below. Three 24hrs ration packs at the front and all the gear (bar the handgun and reloads, they are in a safe(s) in the same locale. Adding gear from my bathroom probably added 5 mins to this number. That being said I could add a change of clothes and the handgun to my truck and drive away the rest you mention are already in there

It would take me 15 minutes to find the car keys and we'd go from there
. Seriously, there is something to be said for having things packed and ready to go. I have all my "supplies" boxed, taped, labeled, dated on a pallet - ready to load into the SUV at a moment's notice. Sealed in boxes is good cause it keeps them clean, organized and i'm less likely to dip into them. If i stay here i'm good, if i head for the country i throw the boxes into the SUV and in 15 - 20 minutes i'm outta here. Last edited by Rick; January 23, 2007 at 10:12. |

Well I'm screwed, unless I leave my wife and three daughters. We are late for EVERYTHING, even when planned for well in advance. No way in heck I can get my gaggle to move out in a timely manner.

Zero seconds. You caught me on a morning that I already have all of that plus some more sitting by the front door. Its my truck kit and I brought it in last night to update a few things. I eliminated the rifle due to weight and bulk problems and I replaced the camo EWG parka with a lighter GoreTex fishing shell. I also repacked the backpack so its more efficient. Its all covert enough that I could walk down the street today without a second glance, even from LE.

+1 FOR THE ZERO MINUTES.
Except for the cash, I already keep the above list and more in two rubbermaid containers already in the back of the suv (I have a Mazda Tribute, so it doesnt rate capital letters). The cash is generally in the wallet plus some in the center console. I figure that by keeping stuff already in the car, I gain all that I am already wearing PLUS whatever else I grab on the way to the car. Kind of "bonus" clothes, if you will. |

All my stuff is in the garage, in plastic totes. 2 weeks worth of food, I'd have to fill my water cans.
Clothes, well that depends upon the season........

Have an ALICE pack loaded. A Tarzan M32 vest loaded, two EG belt type mag holders on a GI pistol belt, and AK47 loaded with 100rd drum, and one SAIGA .308 strapped to my back when I need to "Reach out".
I'm ready.

Yep, I have a Go-bag as well. I guess except for the food, and I could get by with what I have in the cupboard, I could run in 10 minutes. I have MRE's in my storage room, 10 minutes from here.
That is where the good stuff is...

A quick temporary poncho can be made from those large black plastic trash bags. Cut 3 holes for head & arms, cinch up the plastic tye, cut 2 holes in another for bottom wear, cinch the tye under top one and your dry.

Please enlighten me for I am confused. Just what type of scenario would a person have to bug out for? If you did bug out, where would you go and for what reason. To escape a natural disaster? Hurricane I could see, massive flooding (not hurricane related) I could see. Tornado??/ Better off staying put and lower than a snakes belly in a wagon wheel rut. But, most of the time, at least from what I've seen, you have days to prepare and days to move, provided your not waiting for the gubment to save you. Other scenarios?? Invasion? You still need someplace to go/hide, discreetly I guess/suppose.
Cell phones probably would be a waste, service would be spotty at best, and, everybody would be trying to use them anyway so there would be no getting through, a person would be better off with a CB or portable ham radio (do they make such an animal?) A survival scenerio a person may be best off learning the basics. Learn to build a fire, even the primitive way if necessary. Learn how to make shelter. Learn what you can and cannot eat off the land. Dave

Major natural disaster fire/flood/hurricane/tsunami etc are about the only circumstances I consider. any other "issues" I plan on staying at home (where I am well prepared). Invasion and such DO NOT figure in my planning.

I live in the hood of Atlanta. If there is a disaster, where I am not called to serve, I may well go somewhere less urban to wait it out. I keep a bag packed because it is part of my business.

I've taken as realistic look as I can at the potential disasters that would prompt me to BO because doing so is my absolute last resort. I'd much rather hunker down at my place with extra food/water than to leave. A dirty bomb or the civil unrest that would come with it are the only things I can think of, save natural disasters such as tornadoes etc. that would cause me to leave.

But, I think that many will be disappointed when they speak up in the middle of the CW bands with the handle Rubber Duck and no one will answer them. A lot has been posted to the files already about it.

Remember when they had that problem with wet basements and such down at the south end of the Mississippi recently? Seems like there was enough warning for that one that had we owned property down there we could have rented a truck, driven all the way down there, loaded her up and got all the way back to the other end of that river here in MN before it even started to rain. I do think that you should take the possibility of invasion a little more seriously. The commies could over run California in no time and there would be Russian tanks or Chinese paratroopers in downtown Hamburg before you could say, "you can't park that thing there!" I wonder how long it would take to drive a tank from California to Minnesota...
