Selector Mods?
I have an Imbel kit. Is it true you have to modify the full-auto selector to semi-config on parts kits to be legal?

Ted, Thanks. This is my first FAL build. Never fired one either. With all the (modified)selectors for sale lately, I thought I might have missed something.

Some folks install a pin in the TMH to prevent over-rotation. Others use an Inch selector: it has a shoulder that bears against the receiver when rotated to R that prevents rotation to A.

If you get the US Pistol Grip from Dan yo udon't need to worry about it. They don't have the cutout for the selector to move into Auto.

When I bought my Imbel/STG clone I was very disgusted with the Austrian selector. It was very hard to get moving out of a detent, and would usually flip past semi into never-never land down there between semi and auto. It took a lot of effort to move it where I wanted it to go because the detent ball was too small for the receiver notches, and it would get lodged down in the notches.
I bought a big L1A1 inch selector, pulled out the old selector stop pin with vise grips, and slid the new selector into place. It was instantly 10,000% better. I can now flip the safety on and off with my thumb without too much effort. I did have to carve a little on the plastic pistol grip, as its notch radius was too short for the arc of the selector knob. While I was at it, I replaced the dinky little Austrian mag release with the bigger L1A1 type (you need to get the L1A1 pivot screw for this lever, also). Very pleased with it, too.
