Chroming of barrels and chambers?

Is it possible to get chroming done on new or used barrels that either are not chromed or need chrome re-done in the chamber or barrel --is this easy to do ? are there any companys aoutthere that anyoone knows of that can do it ?
IE good barrel but chamber is getting sticky under heavy shooting or new barrels that dont come with chromed chamber or bore etc

No. It is very cost prohibitive to attempt to chrome line a non-chrome barrel. The easiest and cheapest thing to do is simply buy a chrome lined barrel and install it. I think you can find one for about $99 in new condition Argentine manufacture.

What about just chroming the chamber?

If the chamber is rough ("sticky"), polishing the chamber should take care of the problem.

I don't believe that hard chrome as applied to the exterior surfaces of a firearm is the same as the chrome lining applied to the bore and chamber of a rifle barrel. Of course, I could be all wet.

The chrome in the bore and chamber is much harder and more brittle. If you have worn the chrome from bore or chamber, you have shot that barrel a heck of a lot and it is probably showing some throat and muzzle erosion and in need of replacement anyway.

I think my original question (hey it was 2 years ago!) was in regard to barrels or getting just a chamber chrome plated not nesscessarilly on FALs but all firearms or getting the chrome lining "restored". But triple chrome plating a FAL might be interesting from a "pimp fal' perspective IIRC someone was polishing and clearcoating a FAL finish at one time.

I remember that. Looked like he was doing a good job without rounding any corners off. I never say a post with the final, finished rifle.

I'm going strictly by old memory, so correct me if I'm wrong, please. Chrome plating of gun bores involve an expensive process of bonding chrome directly on the steel. There is no layer of copper, no layer of nickel, to be followed by chrome (so-called triple chrome plating). The bore is sized to allow for proper dimensions after the plating. Meaning that the bore is made a little bigger so that the chrome layer decreases the bore to the right size. M-16 bores went from bare steel, to chrome chambers (for a short time), then to chrome bore and chamber. There was a "C" stamped on the right side of the barrel between the front sight and the flash hider to mark fully chromed bore/chamber.

Triple chrome plating of firearms receivers, bolts, and barrels are not recommended because it weakened the steel. NRA had an article on that many years ago. I can't remember what exactly caused it. I do remember that it said not to shoot M-1 Garands and 1903 and '03A3 chrome plated drill rifles.

Nickel plating and electroless nickel and also Robar's NP3 plating processes are okay.

Hard chrome plating and Armoloy are not a triple chrome plating process. They are okay too.
