Drilling gas orifice
Do you have to remove gas block to drill out the gas orifice? It seems like a straight shot with the gas adjuster slid back.
Also, I bought a spare piston from Tapco (L1A1), it will not cycle at all. It looks basically the same, but some of the machined checks look to have more radius to them. Thanks |

On a metric FAL remove the front sight to get at the gas orifice. I have never done an inch model.

Tapco will stand behind their gas pistons. I would suggest that if you are perhaps so Primative that you don't have a measuring device that you find someone who can measure the diameter for you.
There seems to be some problems with only a few of the Tapco pistons, at least one reported by a guy in Arizona, in that the guide "eggs" and I don't know what else to call them, were of a too large diameter but I have not had that exierence. You'd know if you measured it. I havn't drilled a gas port either (yet) because all the guns I've built operate fine as they are but it seems to be the norm to drill them through the gas block as needed after all other gas system tweeks are tried. Straight down from the removed front sight hole in a metric gun and at an angle through the hole as you observed with the inch guns. |
