First Build Question

I just finished my first build which was an Imbel on a DSA receiver. So far everything has been easy.

I just received my locking shoulder and installed it tonight (she didn't want to go in at all!) and now when I check headspace, it's VERY tight. When I measured it, I used 2-thumb pressure on a Forster GO. Turned out to be .255. Then I added 1 (for expansion/barrel settling at first firing) and subtracted 2 for NATO spec since I wasn't using Clymer gages which gave me a .254 locking shoulder. Now when I check headspace, I still have 2-thumb pressure or a little more to close the chamber on a GO gage. Same results with a live round.

When I dropped the bolt on live round (firing pin and extractor removed) it closed. Can I test fire it or do I need to re-headspace? Am I in an un-safe condition?

Did I headspace correctly or am I completely off in left field? How the hell much exactly is 2-thumb pressure?

good to go. i run tight headspace and i think it helps squeeze some accuracy out of the gun. i always test fire three rds under the bench where any explosion will be blocked by the table and then rock and roll.

Same here. I was told by GPG that you want it to be a little tight. It will help with accuracy in the long run. It may take a few rounds for everything to wear/settle in. You may have an issue with it not closing up to battery for a round or 2, but in the end, he said it's better overall.

Awesome!! She runs like a champ. First round was a stovepipe but adjusted the gas one notch and not a single hiccup for 60 rounds.

One question. My friend built a FAL with me but it is shooting a little low even with the front site post screwed all the way down. Is there anything he can do to get this any higher? He's a couple inches low at 25 yards. We weren't able to shoot anything longer yesterday. It's an Imbel Kit with DSA type 1 receiver. His also fired without a hitch.

Hey SIGthusiast, do you know how many Dots or on the front sight post,there are five different heights of front sight posts for the Metric rifles and each post will be marked and they run from No Dots for a #0, one Dot for #1, two Dots for #2, three Dots for #3, and four Dots for the #4 which is the tallest sight post,It sounds like your friend needs a shorter front sight post.............

Did you try his rifle? Reason I ask is, it took me awhile to figure out how to use the sights on these. Actually it takes me awhile to figure out every gun. If I have one that seems off, I hand it to my buddy and see how he does with it. If his target looks like mine, it's the gun. Usually it's me. You should try a few rounds in his rifle before you go chasing down new parts.

Will do. We plan on heading out again next Tuesday so i'll make sure try it out. Thanks again for all the help!

Just run the back sight up a couple of notches (400 m) and go from there. Then you can figure out later what you need to do to fix the minor problem.

How is that for an answer Jeter?
