Brownell's discount for C&R holders

I just sent in my C&R app, partly because of the discount Brownell's offers. I don't know what kind of discount I can expect, though. Anybody have an idea on what I can expect to save? Thanks.

Brownell's will give a dealer discount on items that are normally re-sold by a dealer or gunsmith (gun parts, some supplies, slings and other accessories), they don't give a discount on most tooling and shop supplies (bluing salts, park solution). Sometimes the discount is pretty good and some of the stuff they don't knock much off at all. They will send you instructions to de-code the dealer price.

Look at the items in the catalog. In front of the price is a set of numbers something like K08C43. I don't have a catalog in front of me but the discount price on an item number like that would be $8.43. Just discount the letters. The amount you save will vary from nothing to 20-25% or so.

Brownells does not discount all items for FFL holders. For example most gunsmith tools and items that usually are not resold to the public are not discounted. Discount varies but 20% +/- is average.

That is disappointing, since I am mainly wanted to save money on tools. Oh, well, that was only part of the reason I applied for the license

I thought that a C&R was strictly a collectors license. Since the discount is for dealers, are you sure that they give the discount to a C&R holder? Seems like they would at least require a business license as well.

Brownell's is one of the few vendors that will give C&R the discounts. Most vendors won't give the time of day to C&R holders. Hell, some won't even sell C&R firearms to license holders, like Lew Horton.
Just vote with your money, shop around and support the vendors that will do business with C&Rs.

That's good to know. Maybe I will look into getting a C&R now.

The discount isn't only for FFL's. They used to give the discount to any body with a business, any kind of business. I was once the manager of a lawn care company. I sent them a business card and a request for a dealer price list and they sent me one. I think they have tightened up the requirements now but last time I checked their web page they were still giving the discount to gunsmithing students and others connected with the firearms trade who were not FFL's.
