parking a barrel

quick question: do you plug a fal barrel when you park it? what about plugging the gas port with the front sight on (can't take it off due to flash hider (oops, I mean compensator)? It's a new argie barrel cut down to 18 inches with a new 2 inch compensator on it.

Thanks.

Plug everything. Phosphate finishes won't stick to chrome, but the solution could damage the chrome if it's not washed off.

11B20:

I went to the hardware store and bought an assortment of rubber "corks". You know, in the bin-drawers w/all the odd ss/nylon hardware/nuts?

Larger one for chamber. smaller ones for sight hole/gas block, and a real small one for the muzzle.

IIRC, it cost me about $1.50

HTH,
Paul

I'm glad you thought of blocking the gas port. I would have probably forgotten about it, and instead of keeping the solution-out. I would have kept it in.z

I plugged mine. I just bought some dowell rods, cur them to about a 5" length and tapered the end and then tapped it into my barrell. Used smaller size for gas hole, but only hand inserted it. I didnt have any problems only you will have to struggle removing them after they swell.

brownells also sells plugs for them if you want to order them. Looks like nothing more than silicone that has been formed in a cone shape.
