FAL Sticking frame lock ???

Hi all -

on my L1A1 when I go to field strip clean, the frame lock mechanism gets hung up - - I push the lever but the the rifle won't "clam shell" open. I have to back out the recoil spring to open...

thoughts?

Well...I'll say at least one thing...

You've got two parts: the lug on the receiver, and frame lock. Frame locks cost about 10 bucks, so if you're going to file a part, you know which one to do.

I would suspect nothing other than an upper that fits snuggly around the sides and backing plate of the lower, which is desireable to prevent lateral play.

try a little different technique:

Place mag well over thigh/leg
Depress locking lever
Bump top of Flash Hider with free hand.

Being a new built, It will loosen up shortly.

it could be that the frame lock is hanging up in the buttstock recess area as this is where the frame lock goes into when you pull back on your frame lock lever, you might try either increasing the depth of the buttstock recess hole or inreasing the diameter of the buttstock recess hole for clearance.

On one of mine, the bore of the lock and spring assembly was full of grease and grit. Very difficult to operate. Took it apart and cleaned everything. Then polished the inside bore and the lock will some 600 grit paper. All was well afterwards.

I would agree w/ Mosin Guy, I had a similar problem w/ a crappy para lower from sarco. The frame lock plunger was scraping the side of the recess in the lower... little, and I mean little, grinding of the recess's side and the problem was solved
