rules for the Wile E. Coyote School of Gunsmithin' - WECSOG
(with proper acknowledgment to TOOL as the origin of the school's name)
Rule 1. The Road Runner cannot harm the Coyote except by going "Beep-Beep! (or WTF!)" Rule 2. No outside force can harm the Coyote - only his own ineptitude or the failure of Acme products. Rule 3. The Coyote could stop anytime - if he were not a fanatic. ("A fanatic is one who redoubles his effort when he has forgotten his aim." - George Santayana) Rule 4. No dialogue ever, except "Beep-Beep! (or WTF)" Rule 5. The Road Runner must stay on the road (or the FAL board). (i.e. the name Road Runner) Rule 6. All action must be confined to the southwest american desert. (natural environment of the two characters...or the FAL board and the basement of Jeter's shack) Rule 7. All materials, tools, weapons, or mechanical conviniences must be obtained from the Acme Corporation. Rule 8. Whenever possible, make gravity the Coyote's greatest enemy. Rule 9. The Coyote is always more humiliated than harmed by his failures. Rule 10. The audience's sympathy must remain with the Coyote. [ August 25, 2001: Message edited by: gary.jeter ]

11. Devices which don't work when activated should be jumped up and down on or pushed against...whichever is more likely to cause personal (Coyote) injury.
12. Explosives are proximity based...i.e. they only work near the instigator. 13. Everything falls faster than an anvil (I can't believe you forgot this one). 14. The only reason ole Wile E. never got anything to work was because he didn't have a DREMEL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! peace!

I'm thinking about a school logo.
Maybe Wile E. wielding a 2 lb. hammer against the front sight of a FAL. One hand on the flash suppressor, one hand raised high, wielding the hammer. Rifle laid across a LARGE ACME anvil. Both feet in the air. Evil grimace on face. Roadrunner in the backround with incredulous expression and thought ballon that reads...you guessed it...WTF!!!

Your only competitor will be the "Angry Beaver School of Hack-smithing", also coined (IIRC) by someone in the desert SW.

Dude! I'll take one! Customized with my real name and business name. $10-15 for the diploma would be cool for me.

Welcome to Wylie Coyote Junior College, located in the panhandle of Oklahoma. Tuition is cheap, but you may need a pell grant to pay for the parking sticker.
When I was a freshman in college (a real one), my professor used to tell the poor kids who failed a test, "Son, good luck next semester in vo-tech." The sad thing is, I graduated and I can't find a decent job. But those guys who went to technical school and got a skill and, well, they're doing pretty good now compared to me.

Damn Gary,
How do you come up with such interesting and imformative stuff for us DYI folks? As I have shot a lot, and spent a lot of time in a real gunsmith shop, your stuff is so real to life for the masses (excluding Rosie's bunch). I spent many Sundays watching that dangeg coyote, and after a few years (maybe more), I now see the light- I am not alone. I enjoy your stuff, maybe being a lawyer is not so bad (altho my family lawyers cannot understand fun/puns), what a waste. Thanks guy, it is their loss.

Doesn't ACME make Dremels ?
I think I saw it stamped on there somewhere. How major do the injuries incurred while attempting to build a FAL have to be to be considered for WECSOG membership ? |

I could use my PCDI certificate in gunsmithing as backing when I frame the WECSOG certificate. That's about all it's good for. The texture's too rough for the other possible use.

bykerhd, you would need proof of an ambulance ride to the hospital, hospital bills or pictures of blood on a hammer, vise or dremel tool. This will also help, a picture of what you fouled up(gets a better class ranking). It may hurt but, it`s worth in the long run!

bykerhd, when you asked how many injuries to qualify, did you mean just to ourselves? Or, can we include broken tools, vises, and holes in the walls or friends? I own more broken tools than I do complete tools, and my G1 from Tapco hasn't even arrived.
Seriously, be careful working on guns. My wife spent two nights in the hospital this month, because she was trying to help me with a Kel Tec P32. I was trying to pound the pins out to remove the frame from the grip, because the hammer block spring had broken. After I left for work, she tried to help by attempting to pull one out with a pair of needle nose pliers. The pliers slipped off of the pin and ended-up going up one nostril of her nose. She pierced her sinus cavity, and hasn't felt well since. She got an infection that has spread to her sinusoidal (sp?) sinus cavity. I don't know much about sinus problems (never had them), but the doctor seems concerned. She's currently on some serious antibiotics, and is having debilitating headaches. Careful with those tools! |

Thanks 1006587. I just can't tell her about it, because she'd kill me if she knew I was going around telling people about it.
She is very embarrassed about the incident.Of course, she thinks I pulled a more stupid stunt after it happened. The ER doctor called the police and told them it looked like a case of DV. When I got to the hospital, there was already an officer there waiting on me. She asked me a lot of personal(!! like how many times per week I have sex with my wife and/or with others!) questions. I didn't say a single word to her, and I simply tried to ignore her yelling. If my boss hadn't been with me (he drove, because he was afraid I'd hurt myself trying to get there too quickly) hadn't been there to tell the officer I had been at work for the previous 12 hours, I might have spent the night in jail. That officer seriously wanted to arrest me. She had her handcuff's out of their pouch before I even got to see my wife. I would have ended-up having to turn-in all of my guns if I had been charged. My wife thinks I did something more stupid than she did. She might be right. Playing with the law is more dangerous than playing with a Dremel tool. Wile E. Coyote School of Lawyerin' is only for the brave. |

I have scars here and there from my misadventures.
Come to think of it my tools and other stuff have scars too. Must be catching. Anybody ever lean over to see "what the heck" was holding that main spring in place just as it decided to launch ? That can be exciting. Makes you think "DUMBGUY" all the way to the Emergency Room. Wife is NOT sympathetic. She talked about framing the bill. Does this count towards my WECSOG degree ? |

I wonder if a rule something like, "all medical costs related to gun smithing injuries may be applied to tuition at the WESCOG school" would be a good idea. If so, I have a feeling some people here would have their tuition, a meal plan, and books paid for.

ZOOM, now that story about the cop really pisses me off! here you are haulin' behind to get to your woman's side, worried about her and you get crap from a cop before you can even see her. They probably would have arrested me for telling her to get the F out of my way. I would at least report her to IA. I'm not LEO prejudiced, half my family works for the sheriff's dept., which is why I'm prejudice against a-holes with badges.

Sorry to get so far offtopic...
pariah, I didn't tell the entire story. The young woman was under the impression that it is a felony for her as a LEO to not fully investigate the DV accusation. It is in some states, like California, but it is not here. She had been lied to about the state law in her classes. I had a life-long friend who works at the SCDPS (department of police services, I don't exactly know what all the do) explain the law to her later. She also apologized for losing her temper. Of course, I didn't help matters by not even acknowledging her presence at the time. She didn't know how to handle the situation. Apparently, she was only trained how to handle hysterical people. Simply keeping my mouth shut to control a situation is an evil trick I learned from my DI.In the end, I was more upset at the doctor. My wife says that before the doctor started working on her, she asked a bunch of questions about what happened then she left to go call the police. She delayed treatment to ask questions and call the police. The doctor also asked the officer to make me stay in the waiting room, and warned that I might become violent with her and suggested she call for backup. I'm 73 (as of today!), and my wife is (well, I'm not allowed to say but it's close to my age). Why would a doctor tell a cop that they would need help controlling a 73 year-old man? I also still can't figure-out why the doctor would assume a pair of needle nose pliers up someone's nose would be spousal abuse. To put in simply, I'm a little upset with the doctor. The officer did what she thought was her job, and has since been educated. The doctor was being a busy-body and caused harm. I come-off many times as anti-LEO. Over the Internet, many people sound anti-LEO who are simply, like you, (to use your words) anti-a-holes w/ badges. There is a big difference. I haven't met many officers who were pro-2nd amendment, so I have a hard time being pro-LEO, but I'm trying. |
