Sleeving the G1 FH
After seeing the FH on my G1 barrels, I think it looks pretty good. So I was thinking of chucking them up and sleeving them so they can stay on my barrel. Couplea questions....I will have to remove the notch the grenades attach to, then bore the hole out to accept....what? 4140 DOM? Is that good enough? Then silver solder it in place so it cannot be removed. Then do I have to silver solder the sleeved FH in place? Or can I have it detachable still?

No matter what you do, you'll have lots of company! Depends on whether you abide by the intent of the law or the letter or the law, I guess. Do what you want. Nobody's going to check or care, most likely.

Well, I spun the FH last night to remove the GL lug on it. Now, I'll have to bore it and sleeve it. Still wondering whether 4140 DOM will work properly as a sleeve?

Why sleave it? I have a great idea- get a blank firing device from tapco and cut the end off of it or just drill out the end, this would work wouldn't it?

DOM appears to be the sleeve of choice for this application. GP has some neat pics of this at his website.

The G-1 FH is an entirely separate component from the G-1 GL. The G-1 GL CANNOT attach to the FH, so there's no notch to remove. Am I confused? We've already concluded you do not need to remove the G-1 barrel lug, as it does not accept bayonets, and cannot function as a bayonet lug. Or have I missed something?

I've left the G1 barrel lug as an "accessory" lug. The FH has a lug on it as well. That's what I've already removed. I just figured it had something to do with GL capability. I must have missed GP's part on sleeving FHs.

1/2" .065" wall thickness DOM mld steel has worked fine. Shorten end of FH and weld to fill the amount shortened. With TAPCO's price, I see little point in the workk,.
