What the hell is this?

I haven't seen one of these before. Looks like and AOW, but I've seen a few weapons with a factory forgrip, like a really early tec-9, grandfathered in as a pistol before. What is it and what's it worth?

All Thompsons up until the M1A/A1 (mass produced for WW2) had removable stocks.

I dont really know what this particular piece is; it could be the real thing with the stock removed or some sort of pistol/AOW bastard thingy...

I want an M1A1 ; sucks to be poor...

Back in the 70's and 80's Auto Ordinance marketed several semi-auto versions of the Thompson Sub Machinegun.

The 1927A1, which was the delux version with finned barrel, Lyman type sights and Cutts style compensator, in 45 caliber. I believe at one time 38 Super versions were contemplated, but don't think they went into production.

The "M1" military style, with side cocking handle, no finned barrel or compensator, with simpler peep sight on the rear.

A 22 caliber vesion of the 1927A1 with an alloy frame to reduce weight.

And finally, the example shown, the 1927A5 (?) Thompson pistol. No provision for a buttstock and an original length 10 inch barrel instead of the longer 16 inch barrel of the others.

Thompson submachineguns are heavy and complicated. There are much better weapons out there, but the historical link plus the old fashioned workmanship, makes them a fine addition to any collection.

IF I WERE ever to realisticly NEED a subgun, I'd prefer my Uzi...(Not that it's likely)

It's a 1927A-5, and there's only two I could find for sale.
