Which Scope Mount To Get?
I want to get a scope mount for my G1, but I can't see spending the extra $40 for the 8 screw mount. Those of you with the cheeper mounts have any problems? Thanks for your inputs!

I do not mean to preach to you, I just want to tell others of the lessons I have learned.
Spend to money for an ARMS mount. They are repeatable when removed and have very nice lines. DSAs are clunky and heavier than they should be. I do not know about the cheaper models. The same goes for scopes and rings. Spend more than you would like to and you will be happy. I used to think that spending more than $25 on a set of rings was insane. Now I do not own a set that costs less than $70. The moral of the story is "you get what you pay for." Save up a little more and be happy with what you buy. Sorry, but I had to. |

Yes. The Williams cover/mount is an excellent choice. More importantly, it is priced right.

I will second what Zed told you. There is IMHO, no justifiable reason to take a good shooting rifle and marry it to a functional and reliable scope if you are going to do so with junk mounts and rings. Why bother if you are going to skimp on the parts that have to hold Everything in alignment. My philosophy has always been to buy the best equipment that you can. You can turn a fair shooter (rifle) into a great shooter with good equipment or, you can turn a great shooter into a boat anchor with sorry optical equipment. I think the same applies to the scope also, I have been accused of being a scope snob for this reason. I have seen to many Tasco, Simmons etc shot into ratteling garbage to want to waste my money on them. Stick with the higher end manufacturers on optics and mounting systems. You won't be sorry!
Regards, Jim
