IOR 3-18 mount question
Does anyone have an IOR 3-18?
ARMS advertises 34mm mount; the IOR's are 35mm by spec, but I haven't measured the tube diameter directly yet. Anyone actually measure the tube yet? ARMS mounts might be for Leupold? I just got my 3-18 on 1 Sep, mounted it today, but heavy rain made zeroing problematic (I didn't want to get soaked, so I wimped out after waiting a few hours at the range, used the time getting better with my 45's). Hoping for less rain tomorrow. Mounted it on my FAL because intended AR, MGI 'Hydra', isn't in my hands quite yet as a temp shooting platform. It displaced an IOR M2 temporarily. Real target platform is MGI U/L AR though. First impressions: it is big, and bright; 35mm tube no doubt helps here. Doesn't feel heavy on the FAL. No lens covers provided with the scope but a ~50mm objective hood was included as well as two nice and solid scope mounts. I got a Butler Creek 'Flip-Open' 30OBJ for the front (it for perfectly) but had to order the other cover. We'll see how this works out. I used the previously mentioned low mounts from IOR, it cleared everything nicely on the FAL (DSA mount). But I would really like a quick release mounting system. I have an EOTech 552 with the GG&G QR mount, and would like something like that for this scope. It would probably be two throw levers, not one, but that is a guess. 552 is intended as close quick sight. It fit on FAL perfectly, BTW. Still didn't correct mild vertical stringing though, so bolt and bolt carrier work coming up .I'll take a pic at range tomorrow using my phone; if it comes out ok I'll post it, maybe with EOTech too. |

I've got one. You'll likely crush your tube if you try it w/ 34mm mounts. It is a true 35mm tube. I believe the USO scopes are 34mm. Off the top of my head I don't know anybody other than TPS or IOR that makes 35mm rings.
If you go to SWFA's website it looks like they have IOR 35mm QD rings. Hope that helps... |

Where did you guys get your IOR 3-18's? Did you get a good deal?
Thanks!

I got mine from Fred Augat of USAOptics. I don't know if I got a 'deal' (probably not based on my past purchasing performance
) but I am happy with the scope and the mounts. Fred took the order under very adverse conditions and still came through with grace. And I think he might have knocked a few bucks off as well.I got the low mounts, and they work fine on my Arizona Response Systems FAL carbine with DSA rail. I wish the mounts had levers instead of hex nuts, but I think I can fix this (fabricate levers). Got it mostly zeroed late this afternoon. Clarity though the scope was good, adjustments seemed solid and predictable. No pix today due to rain, cloud cover, low light, and a phone for a camera. |

I got mine from Scott at Liberty Optics. I got it for a couple hundred under what they are advertised at now, but I had reserved one before IOR's price increase last winter.
IMHO it is the best scope for the money. |
