Best locking shoulders?

After reading some of the posts by WJ_POLISH_GUY and others, I've been wondering... Who's got the best locking shoulders, WRT dimensions, hardness, and price? Any specific suggestions?

Try emailing Jen (owner of this board) or Gunthings (www.gunthings.com). I think Gunplumber had some too.

Boy, that's a good question. I came across what appears to be a commercial unit that has
a rough "lathe" type finish and does not have the angle that the originals do. Just straight across.

Have no idea where it came from as I got it on a trade. YUCK!

Sure would like to find a source that sells a finished ground shoulder just like the originals at a decent price.

Are Jen's, DSA's and the others just like the originals that come with the kits? Like finished ground with the proper angles machined in etc.?

Maybe someone could post pictures of a closeup of the commercial shoulders?

(never had to buy any yet)

I have bought a couple thru Jen and Ed Vandenburg, and mine were perfect. Ed did make some (first batch) that had the angle off (by 1 degree or so), but has since corrected this. I have 15 or so ratholed and compared to Jen's, there is no difference in function. I have no way of measuring Rockwell hardness, but I know Ed. He will make perfect anything that he does. He is well known in the Houston area for his perfection and competition guns. He admitted the error and has since corrected it.

WJ did get a couple problem shoulders, but don't write Ed off for a first run product.

I just saw in a catalog supplement from Brownell's that they are now carrying Vandenburg Custom locking shoulders. The only bad part is that they only stock sizes .265-.270 and state that these should cover the majority of your needs. Yeah, right.

Hi Riccochet. The one I have is definitely not a Vandenberg then. The guy who traded it said it came from a SGN ad for $12 and looks like Century Arms built it.

Try Jen for locking shoulders. I sent her a mixed bunch recently - all arsenal mnfr and fully finished.

ps. You will also be directly/indirectly supporting our forum.
