something is slowing down the Files for me
When opening the Files home page the first time in a session, it takes forever to load. IT is like there is a cookie or counter or something that is really slowing down the connection. I have a dedicated DSL at home and T1 at work, both useing Firefox, and both take over 20 seconds to load.
Any suggesstions? Scott

I've been having some problems too...
It first started about a week and a half ago when I was prompted by my Symantec antivirus program to download two updates (one of which was about 1.2MB). My computer at work is wired to a superfast connection with IT maintained/updated Symantec antivirus 'protection' and firewalls. My computer at home works over a 56K modem to my work's dialup system. I have a really shitty phone line connection, and my dialup connection usually works around 25kbps (which means that 1.2MB downloads take awhile). I usually don't bother with the big downloads but, being stupid, decided to allow the Symantec one. When done, my download time for all webconnections increased about tenfold. It takes forever to bring up all websites, including falfiles... I maintain four browers on my computer (Netscape 7.1, MS Internet Explorer, Netscape 8.0 and Firefox). I usually use Netscape 7.1 (because I'm familiar with it and like it's features). I downloaded the antivirus update using 7.1. At this moment, I'm using Netscape 8.0, and it's operating at the old (fast) page download speeds. If I try to use 7.1, it's still slow. Internet Explorer is still slow. I haven't tried Firefox from home. Perhaps the slower site/page download speed is unrelated to the Symantec update, but I'm not a big fan of coincidences. The slow speed certainly does suck. If you find the problem, please let me (and all of us) know... Forrest |

'bout 15 other sites are speedy as all get out. 'files still exasperatingly slow at times. Just had a "lock-up:" on the files. Went to a couple others and no problemo. Cleared cookies from the system and logged back on....OK now

I use roadrunner and this evening, the Files page was really slow in loading pages. I used Ad-aware to cleanse the demons, rebooted and regained the speed of old. Dunno why it worked, but it did!!

Clear all your cache and start over. You may have many 'pages' that are trying to refresh. Change options to 'refresh' web pages ONLY when you go to that specific page. See Tools/Internet Options/Advanced (tab). The Files loads lightning fast for me, wherever I am, using IE or Firefox.
