Ar10T- any good? Opinions?

Ok, don't start. I know I could purchase a fine fal for the same money but... variety is nice. Local gun store has a trade in AR10t that looks mighty fine- maybe 99%. No accessories at all, just the rifle. They are asking $1450 which seems fair but I don't know much about the AR10. Boston rips them pretty bad in his Gun Bible and I know Bushmaster has dc'd their AR10.so most of the info I have heard/read is bad. I have always liked the feel of the AR and except for the damn cleaning the AR15 is pretty cool. How is it in .308? Accurate as an FAL or M1A? Reliable? Mags must be out there now since the ban is bye bye. Would figure that a 24" stainless barrel with a .308 would be a tack driver. Opinions please. Thanks.

I like my AR10. It started out as an AR10A4 in .243. It shot great. I put a Kreiger .308 barrel on it later and it still shoots perfectly. For some reason I have not had the problems many have had.

Most problems are magazine related. I put Wolffe springs in mine, the correct way, and they work fine. Another mod I did that helped was to M-4 the feed ramps with a Dremel tool.

I have 4 AR10's. Many people will shit on them- mainly because they have heard of "somebody" having problems. This gun "problems" stems from shitty mags-mainly DIY mods, factory mags work great. I'm not saying its perfect-This rifle had some problems from the start, like every other rifle, but after nearly 10 years, they have been worked out. (no they are not the same as the original, name only).

My 308s have been flawless, with very little cleaning on my part (except for the barrels of the T models). My A2 has over 10K through it and has yet to fail-anytime. Its a 99 model without the "improvements". I have the 300 RSUM model that had a problem, Armalite paid for shipping and fixed it- It works perfectly and is a tack driver.

My Ts shoot under a moa. 300 is at .5-.6ish. 308 still working a load, but it has shot some .3 groups.

Bushmaster sucks- you cant remove a lug from the bolt of this type of rifle and excpect the bolt not to break. Rotating AR bolts and fal mags dont work together. Proven by Armalite in their initial testing (80-90s)

Accurate- they will kick any FAL or M1a out of the box.

New mag design at shot show

I have mult HKs,FALs,M1As, AR10s. reliability- I will put it against all of them, more accurate than all of them. Better platform for upgrades (rails) and such

MY .02$

I don't know if I could rate the reliability up with the FAL, it still doesn't have a gas piston, but my one specimen is good.

Accuracy is way above typical FAL groupings though.

My AR-10T has been 100% out of the box.

It shoots 1moa with Fed match 168gn.

On the other hand... My AR-10A2 carbine has been hell.

I would always FTE. I finally discovered that the chamber was never polished after chroming.... I polished it myself as I didn't want to wait god only knows how many months the warranty turn around would have been at the time.

After polishing the chamber, it was 100% with factory mags and very accurate. I was really proud of it and was firing it in front of a couple of Armalite "naysayers" then the bolt broke in 2 at the cam pin hole....

Sent the bolt back for replacement the first week of December and haven't gotten it back yet.

I really like the ar-10's for their ergonomics and sights.

Having seen some very high round count ar-10's, I believe it was a fluke.

Nary a problem with ny two. The T is almost as accurate as my 700LTR. I sold off an FAL to help purchase the T and I have'nt looked back. Don't get me wrong I like the FAL but I did'nt have enough money at the time so it had to go...

middle-AR10T-24"

Bottom AR10T-300RSAUM

They are all good to go.

How good does your 300rsaum shoot? I was impressed with the American Rifleman review.

I've been thinking about getting one of those, or maybe one of those side feeding 338 lapua uppers...

????

What's this??

Oh God, maybe I shouldn't ask? All I need are more toys.

BTW, my AR10-T has shot .470" groups with factory ammo.

A friend's AR10T was very accurate with factory match ammo. On the other hand, that was the only ammo that would feed reliably.

He had what appears to have been an out-of-battery incident which pretty much wrecked things. Armalite replaced the rifle under warranty, but couldn't/wouldn't explain what went wrong.

The AR10-T has a match chamber and won't usually feed surplus ammo. I use small base dies for reloading on my "T".

my ar10 worked fine right out the box and i never had any issues with mine right up to the day i sold it. my only complaint was factory mags were 85-120 bucks and difficult to find. i sold mine because my truck engine went and i needed cash to fund a new engine. one day i'd like to get another but there are to many other firearms that i want first before i buy another ar10. you may also want to look at DPMS if you're looking for a 308 AR15. The have a m4 in 308 that looks real kickass to me and much cheaper than the 1400 your guy is asking. i believe you can get the DPMS for less than a grand but i don't know their availability.

next on my list of firearms to buy is the FN P90 and F2000.

My AR10 in 300RSAUM is a very precise shooter out to 1000yds I only shot it that far at steel plates and I was within a 6" circle with 5 shots. I usually shoot it only at 200yds and I am about .75 MOA with 5 shots.

Here is my AR30 in 338 Lapua. I know of no side feeding 338.

Now the 338 is a great rifle and keeps it own out at 1000yds. I have shot it out to 2000yds but not accurate with the ammo I had and no 15 or 20 MOA base. Out to 1690yds it was hitting steel without a problem.

I was going to try the 2000yd again but the people will not let us shoot that far anymore. The only problem I have with the 300RSAUM was a ejector spring & pin. I e-mailed Armalite and they sent me a new one. I need to see if it works but need to load some ammo for it.

I like to shoot the 338 more then my Barrett but even if you reload it is expensive compared to the 50 cal.
