can the fal be modified to cock from the right side?
starboard side for you salty types
can a cocking handle be added to the slide (bolt carrier) so the slide/breech block (bolt carrier group) can be pulled and cocked from the right side similar to a ak/m1 garand/m14? welding or drilling and tapping would seem to be cheap/easy. this would simplify the fal design, eliminate all the left side cocking parts and the slot and track on the left side of the upper receiver could be eliminated. a slot would have to be cut in the dust cover for the new cocking handle, but covers are cheap. one could also assist the slide/breech block forward if desired. does this seem like a valid idea or load of horsecrap? the only real drawback i see is having to remove the dustcover prior to removing slide/breech block, but more of a minor point. have a nice day |

I wouldn't drill and tap because you really don't have a whole hunka metal on that carrier to tap and I would never on my death bed touch a bead to that carrier which would just mess up the heat treat. If you stake it, it will most likely scrape the bolt carrier. Got any other ideas on how to add handle to right side of bolt? I don't. BTW if you have had any good experiences welding on gun parts like bolt carrier especially those made of Chromium Molybdenum please tell me, I am dying to build up my rails on the bolt carrier and some bosses on the inside that align the bolt.

can it be done ? i'm sure and if you made it removable you wouldn't have to remove your dust cover or scope mount (more important not to loose zero)to remove bolt and carrier assy.So here is my question....if it were designed to be on the left side so the shooter does not have to come out of his shooting position ie.break his cheek weld to function the rifle why would you want to put it on the right side ???? |

just buy and FNC it is set-up just the way you want it and feel like holding an izzy with synthetic furniture. If you want a quality piece, just save and buy the FNC. I have one and you would be happy with it.

The Australian 'accurized' L1A1 had a lug attached to the BC on the RS (in the e-port), and a slot in the bodycover to accomodate the lug's movement.
