Basic Scope FAQ (non-tactical)
How about some of the learned step up and offer up some posts with basic (and not so basic) info on optical sights. Non- Tactical type. Meaning the kind of scope one would put on a "hunting" rifle (or handgun). IMO, the SUIT and hi-speed, lo-drag EOTECH and such ought to have their own FAQ thread.
Possible gems of knowledge: Parallax- Definition, technology thereof. Variable power vs Fixed 3 x 9 - 40 WTF ? 3 power variable up to 9 power, but WTF is "40" ![]() Low light scopes. What works ? What don't. Rangefinding. Good guts or glitzy gimmick ? Reticle, how you say dat ? Which one you like ? Why ? Mounting systems. Pro - Con, Favorites. Worth a Sticky ?

the 40 is the mm size of the lens. It amounts to how much light the scope will let in.............so the higher the "40" number is, the better you will see in low light. Range finding is wonderful IF you are good at estimating the range, and if the range finder is correct for your load and caliber.
