Barrel Finishing

I'm doing a muzzleloader kit and am ready to Brown the Barrel.

I've read from different places to use Wax at the end to finish the barrel, or Ballistol Oil or Boiled Linseed Oil.

When they say Wax are they referring to Automotive Wax?

Does anyone have a preference?

I would think most any kind of wax could be used to seal the finish and keep the water out. Good automotive waxes contain Carnuba wax which is a good and hard wax with a high melting point.

But, I would think traditionally, the use of bees wax may have been the most common.

I know an old time wood finish that was used included bees wax disolved in turpentine.
