Accuracy: Inch Pattern L1A1s vs. Metric FAL
Hello All,
For those of you who actually shoot your toys, which pattern have you found to be most accurate: the L1A1 inch pattern or the metric pattern? I find that the inch pattern rear sights tend to be very wobbly and the metric rear sights tend to be tighter. Besides the sights, has anyone found any other accuracy-influencing differences in either flavor of FAL? Let the games begin!

I doubt there's any general difference in accuracy potential between either type. For instance, I have a inch rear sight that's tight and a metric rear sight that's a little loose (haven't tightened it up yet). Maybe the inch front sight is slightly preferable because it's an undercut blade rather than a round post (slightly sharper definition), but that's all I can think of right now.

I'm no bench rest or competition shooter. For my use, I haven't noticed any real amount of difference in accuracy between Inch and Metric rifles. Tighten up that rear sight on that Inch rifle and you probably won't either.

My all-Imbels are 2.5". My Lithgow on Century (hey it was 350 at auction and ran great) was 2"x4" with vertical strings. I'd call it a wash.

Re: Accuracy: Inch Pattern L1A1s vs. Metric FAL
The L1A1s with Maranyl furniture are very easy to adjust for length of pull and this helps to "fit" them just a little better.
I like a long length of pull and it helps me when shooting offhand. Off of a bench, I don't see much of a difference. I'm old enough that all my rifles can outshoot me! Kev |
